Re: An idea probably worth discussing...
I love the Caravan, but I'd say it's unlikely here because A2A's extraordinary developers have put a lot of effort, time and money into V-12s and round engines. A turboprop would require significant new development and the excellent Carenado Caravan would be very strong head-to-head competition. I'm...

Re: It's a CONNIE !
A-26 we found wasn't ridiculously expensive, so we looked into possibility of putting it to work...until we discovered that it would cost about $10,000 to fill it with gas.
Nevermind.

Howard Hughes designed Jane Russell's bra but not the Connie
The Lockheed Constellation may be the object of more misinformation and fables than any other airliner ever made. Howard Hughes designed it. (No. He designed Jane Russell’s cantilever bra, but he only specified the range and speed parameters he wanted for a new TWA transport.) The Constellat...

Re: It's a CONNIE !
My thought is that the L-049 might have a different cruise altitude from the one in the video. Look back a few pages and you'll find the POH for the C-69. As a benchmark, it shows that range for SL, 5000, and 10000 feet and max range at 15,000 (at 90-93,000 pound). At 60-70000 pounds, values for FL...

Re: Why no ADF ??
Completely concur with everything said about how modern avionics have improved safety. I want the best available when I'm flying in real life, too. Although I do share the concern that we often delegate situational awareness to systems that can and do fail leaving us with little idea where we are or...

I'm no sound engineer...I picked up Audacity...had no clue how to use this program so it took some time to figure that out. Holy Samoleans, I'm astounded! I thought you are a sound engineer, Ted. That you aren't makes your accomplishment all the more amazing. A while ago TuFun asked for comments on...

Re: Constellation : a suggestion
C-69 and L-049 had provisions for a navigator. Here's how the Lockheed Lead Design Engineer put it in his design analysis: A central door leads aft from the flight compartment to the relief crew and navigator's compartment. In trans-ocean operations this compartment will undoubtedly be used for its ...

Re: It's a CONNIE !
For a different look at our Connie, I posted an engineering design review by By Hall Hibbard, Chief Engineer at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation It begins: Used by U.S. Army for trans-oceanic transport, and later modified by Lockheed engineers for passenger comfort, the “Constellation†is p...
