Re: ADS-B

The Flight 1 Garmin GTNs include traffic reporting (and maybe the Reality XP ones do as well, but I'm not familiar with them).

Re: Redbird Alloy YK1 Simulator Yoke

The Virtual Fly YOKO pushes your $1000 ceiling just a bit (it's $1035 from Jetline Systems , the US distributor). It's excellent - extremely precise and smooth, and unlike your description of the Redbird, it provides increasing tension the farther you get from center (they do it with bungees, which ...

Re: Mishap report

I hope video can be found to serve as a teaching tool to others. It's a pretty remote location, and conditions were tough, but somebody must have been filming... 8) BTW, Angry Staff Officer is a great site (and a great Twitter account, too). The main author is a US Army engineer who comments on a w...

Mishap report

I fully respect A2A's policy on comments concerning aviation accidents. But since this is an official report, I thought it would be safe to post. Focuses mainly on human factors. Hope you find it informative.

Re: Looking to Find New Types for the Library

Warbirdsim has a P-39 in the works, but as far as I know, there's no delivery date yet.

Re: Saitek X52 Pro Controller

I had to start up the sim and take a look because I've never once used the raw/direct input toggle, and I'm not entirely sure what it does. But I think you're right, resetting to default probably cleared whatever was going on.

P3D is a mystery.

But I'm glad you got it solved.

Re: Saitek X52 Pro Controller

Have you checked your sensitivities? On the P3D calibration screen for the X52 throttle, have a look at the sensitivity and null zone settings for the throttle axis. It should be set at maximum sensitivity and minimum null. Anything less than that can lead to reduced percentage of travel of the kind...

Re: Thrustmaster TFRP Pedals: also controlling ailerons

That's characteristic of the V-Tail Bonanza. Aileron and rudder (actually ruddervator) are connected by bungee to make coordinated turns easier. More here. There's nothing wrong with your setup.

Re: Tip Tanks Poll

I've always referred to that as "caffeine maintenance". :) There was an article in a recent Air & Space - I think the one before the current one - where a woman who flew Navy helos referred to "tactical dehydration," a necessity given the lack of plumbing in her aircraft. I'...

Re: Trying Out A2A

Have a look at the Comanche as well - similar profile and mission to the Bonanza, but rock solid, feels like flying a transport. It's a 1959 model, but if you like modern avionics you can fit out out with the Garmin GTN 650/750 package from Flight1 - an additional purchase but well worth it. The Bon...

Re: Tip Tanks Poll

Was a little unsure of how to vote because I prefer the tip tanks on both aircraft - but don't actually use them. I like the look - and I understand that they might provide advantages in drag reduction or stability. But I typically don't fly legs long enough to require them. And I suspect that I wou...

Re: FSX Autopilot

It's been a while since I've used it, but if I remember correctly, the cursor is location-sensitive. If you position it over the left side of the altitude numbers, it'll scroll in thousands. If you position it over the right side, it'll scroll in hundreds. I'll see if I can try it out later - not su...

Re: Favorite Connie routes?

@Paughco - nice route, I'll have to try that. A little longer than my usual - I have a hard time blocking out more than an hour and a half, maybe two hours at the outside. So routes of 500-600 miles are perfect - my Connie is very much a regional airliner. @FireRescue85 - I have fond memories of the...

Re: A2A Constellation London to Sydney 1950's style

Have been following all your flights - on delay, via YouTube. Great project! Still need to catch up with the final leg. For those who haven't checked it out yet - please do. A lot of fun, including some VATSIM adventures, a medical emergency, and old-school VOR to VOR navigation all the way through.
