Set you're initial FOV the same as the wide FOV. Then you can zoom in and out and when you hit the re-centre button you will be at you original zoom level. That should solve your resetting the zoom problems.

I can create hills and maybe even mountains. but do we really need them?
As the resolution of the terrain is so low the amount of control you have over this type of thing is greatly limited. it can be done but should it?

Been trying to get on there all day. First the forums were down, now the whole thing is. Does anyone know if its being updated or something?

Its not perfect but it will do for me.
As has been said before terrain editing in this sim is tedious in the extreme and it would be a mountain (no pun intended) of work to get it re-worked. it has no large hills but it undulates rather nicely.

Just flew it with reflections off and it seemed to make a very slight difference. but not much at all.

There is a contrived way to fly a pilot campaign. it will basically let you fly with only one squadron and will prompt you when that squadron is taking off so you can fly that mission. Here is a PDF file showing you how to set up the game to do it. it was written for Rowans BoB but it works with BoB...

OK here is a small one pass vid I took in the Black Thursday quick mission. You can clearly see the rubbish FPS. Well if thats the attitude they have, they can forget about me buying any more games from GMX. Bloody pennypinching cowboys. Any future releases I will buy directly from the maker or not at all.
