Re: Compass and Navigation not equal
It's the little things like not canceling out your gyro drift that separate the average A2A sim pilot from the crowd. We go to a lot of trouble to give the A2A customer the most accurate airplane state of the art technology can provide. Ideally we would like all our A2A pilots to treat their planes ...

Re: Side-Slip Ability?
Well, it's obvious that the correct amount of control deflection for any given result is.. the correct amount. Would have thought that kind of goes without saying. I don't know many pilots who use full aileron deflection to begin a standard rate turn, either. 😉 However, if the goal is max altitude ...

Re: Side-Slip Ability?
The Stearman would disagree 😉. (In the back pit I'm looking at the runway and we're tracking down centerline.) https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/a5/f0/VvI6auho_t.jpeg Sorry. I stand firmly by my comment. I've given MANY hours of dual in Stearmans, both with Continental and Pratt and Whitney engines. If MA...

Re: Side-Slip Ability?
It's best not to consider a slip as a full rudder maneuver. The Stearman would disagree 😉. Re: Side-Slip Ability?
Well, speaking of personalities, I'm not the soul of every party, that's for sure, but (just looked in the mirror) not that ugly I think  Speaking of the subject, I'm trying to adapt the best way of scrutinizing the data taken from two separate sets of pitot-static sensors one of which gives a...

Re: Side-Slip Ability?
As has been said, slipping will always mess up the airspeed indication somewhat. In an aeroplane like the Comanche that has dual static ports this error is not as pronounced as, say, on C172 with a single static port where you can easily send the needle below zero if you try really hard. Dudley, a ...

Re: Side-Slip Ability?
If you're doing forward slip to lose altitude (so not just a regular side slip), you should have full rudder in. What I would be interested in is if the airspeed indicator reads incorrectly as a result of the slip and air coming at it at an angle. :) You should always suspect some airspeed error wh...

Re: Side-Slip Ability?
Remembering back I can attest the Comanche will slip but it's not a J3 by any stretch of the imagination.
In planes like the Comanche we used to call it "scrubbing off some altitude".

Re: Pattern settings
Good observation Rob. As I'm getting older and a bit more "gruffy" these days I find that when I take the trouble (as other pilots do as well) to post helpful information and then watch these posts sit and sit and sit with not even a simple "thank you" from the person the post i...

Re: Pattern settings
If just doing patternwork, I fly it gear down. Otherwise, I'd drop it just before turning base. It doesn’t make sense to fly pattern work for training purposes and not use the retractable gear. The question was about power settings... Deleted by me. That’s unfortunate Dudley, because what you wrote...

Re: aerodynamic principle of trim
is that reverse trim? no, i found stuff that i could find long years ago:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUOmJzxoaCA so actually reverse trim is not reverse lol. it's normal trim, however you use rudder the tab moves reverse, so that's actually opposite logic of balance tabs :) if i'd was have mo...

Re: aerodynamic principle of trim
Be aware that there is NO absolute universal language in aviation. There IS a common language in engineering and design but when pilots speak among themselves what is trim in one country can easily be trimmer in another country. The political correctness here is stifling. I'm gone. Sorry to see you...

Re: aerodynamic principle of trim
p.s. thanx to david.potter, looks like i did fix all trimmers lol You're quite welcome. I must say, it's refreshing to see someone willing to admit a mistake, which we all make from time to time, and correct it, rather than try to defend it. I admire that quality in people, and it's getting harder ...
