You don't have anything to worry about, they're not going to break anything. Plus the improvements DTG made are worth it.

That happened with my Windows 10 PC trying to DL the anniversary update. I had to reinstall to get it to work. (Still haven't gotten around to taking the 2 days it will take to reinstall FSX )

I think a clean reinstall is your best bet, sadly enough.
