The Dec 18,1949 accident was one block from my house. Remember walking over as a young child and thinking how massive this thing was. There was no yellow tape in those days so I could walk right up and look into the wheel wells. Nobody bothered me so after a 30 minute inspection I walked back home. ...

LT Maury Proctor took 51 minutes of color film of the last 3 months of the war . Included near the end are pictures of the 23 cannon strikes his F6f sustained, he took these from the cockpit on the way home!
