As ungainly as it looks, the Stratocruiser actually had a level of luxury unmatched in it's day and layout wise, was the forerunner of the 747. It might not have looked as sexy as the Constellation but many pilots who flew both preferred the Stratocruiser.

It no more deserves being called one of the greatest moments in history as is does being singled out as being as one of the saddest moments in history. It was a single defining moment at the end of a terrible war.
