Re: P3Dv6

About the thermal paste - even high quality paste will degrade over time. It’s kind of a suspension of microparticles in silicone oil and the oil can dry and thicken. The thermal paste also “moves” a little each thermal cycle and is part of the “break-in” time where a new paste job increases in ther...

Re: Masters of the Air on Apple TV

Spoiler alert - at just before 40 minutes in episode 1 when they are firing up for the submarine pens mission, look close as they start turning #1 with #2 in the frame. Blades are backwards and pitched backwards though rotation direction is correct. I think that pegs it as rendered but if not for th...

Re: Free and beautiful lighting mod for MSFS

@davidtsw1906 - thanks for posting this! I’ve been following discussions on the lighting issue and how people were fixing it but I didn’t know there was a patch that actually implemented it. I had thought people were editing files. Good to know this is standalone (but might interfere with updates) s...

Re: B-17 with "wiskers"

Years ago I used to work on that airplane at Evergreen in Marana. The serial was 44-83785 but I couldn’t swear that was the original serial. The logbooks were incomplete and missing the time she operated with the Skyhook. She was Vega-built at the end of the war, served Japan coastal patrol duties, ...

Looks very very cool! Have you heard of AuthentiKit? https://discord.gg/wu5gp4Gz The guys there have been bringing up 3D printed kits for various aircraft. It’s community contribution, lots of help if you need it for the back end electronics and such, and they’ve been doing amazing stuff for cockpit...

Re: Website Maintenance 4th April 2022

Hey Alan, there are warbirds out and announced for FS2020. Some are not the best quality but some are really good. Not AccuSim, though, but really good. Depending on what you’re looking for, though, you might be surprised. PM if you want more info.

Re: Making the switch

There is no reason those still happy with FSX/P3D can’t also run FS2020 if they are curious. No need to switch at all. Running both gives the chance to gain experience, configure controls, get hardware sorted, or whatever, without sacrificing anything. Nobody loses their A2A aircraft by installing F...

Re: 5G Effects

I don’t know the full history on why the US carriers used spectrum so close to the airline/aviation uses but everything I saw mentioned that there were data rate advantages to the higher frequencies. Certainly there are examples like the old 74MHz TV frequencies where all the stations were equivalen...

Re: A2A is MIA

…and may have to look elsewhere for a well simulated Aircraft on the FS2020 Store. To each their own but I recommend against buying anything you might treasure on the FS2020 marketplace. They take way too much time posting updates. That’s important because each sim update stands a good chance of br...

Re: Connie Round the World

Very nice! I’ve been doing my own round the world following the route the 1924 Army flyers took in their east to west first ever air circumnavigation. A circumnavigation is really interesting. I fly lower in the Flying Iron P-38 and it’s been a lot of fun seeing the various countries, the terrain, a...

Re: 5G Effects

And that's where my issue is - why did they choose to go higher than anyone else? I'm sure the telecoms asked in some way for it, but also knowing what the existing Canadian and European allocations were, it makes no sense for the FCC to eliminate half the lower part of the spectra and expand so fa...

Re: 5G Effects

The problem isn't the phones. It's the base sites. They operate at a much higher power and this is where the issue is. That's why the telecoms were so easily able to agree to delaying implementation, they really aren't loosing much because the stuff they're working with on the "base" side...

Re: 5G Effects

For whatever it’s worth, phone manufacturers have already been shipping 5G phones that use the frequencies the FCC approved. They may not be able to accommodate moving down spectrum and if they can’t, that would cause lots of problems and lawsuits. There may not be open spectrum to move to as well. ...

Re: Windows Updates More Trouble Than Not

The Windows generic drivers come with Windows. The drivers specific for your motherboard or other parts will come from whoever made your motherboard or other parts. I run ASUS motherboards and they have a section of their site where you can get their drivers, BIOS updates, etc. By downloading the la...
