Re: Scholarly speculation on the BoB

States the obvious for most historical events really.

Waterloo would have been different if Blucher had arrived later.

Agincourt would have had a different outcome if there had been fewer longbows employed.

A bit like looking after your health, small changes can make big differences.

Re: University of York Interactive Air Raid Map

Hello PV, I read the article but I couldn't find a link to the actual interactive map. It would be very interesting for me. I was watching a programme about the blitz and they showed an old Ministry of Information film of how they dealt with unexploded bombs. They referred to a map in the control ce...

Re: BoB bubble gum cards

An impressive collection of aircraft! I collected the tea cards, they were Brooke Bond and the little album you stuck them in cost 6d (pounds shillings and pence then). I pestered my parents. aunts and uncles to look out for certain cards to complete my collection. I have complete sets in the little...

Re: BoB bubble gum cards

These completely bypassed me.

I was 14 in 1969 and probably the prime age for these cards.

I can remember buying the ones on the American civil war that had come out a few years earlier, they were quite gory for the time.

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. :D

That would be a dream come true.
I stumbled across the Battle of Britain film right at its beginning on tv two days ago and just had to watch it till the end.
I really wanted to play BOB after but alas big bad win 10; computer said NO!

Re: Links for newspaper series aircraft info and pics

One of the conspiracy theories is that the plane was torn apart by blast waves due to some returning bombers jettisoning their unused ordnance into the channel. Miller's plane being at a lower height than the bombers and unnoticed by them.

Re: Speedlink 'Phantom Hawk' Joystick, with Vibration Feedba

HC, Having looked on e bay to refresh my memory; both mine were force feedback pro and not the precision 2. There are a few on the UK e bay site. They seem to average about £20.00. It's probably down to playing style how long they last plus at that time my four kids (all within 6 years of each ot...

HC you must handle it very gently :D

I got through two of those over the years, but they were the best joystick I have ever owned.

Re: Danger UXB

Sad thing is these things are still turning up with monotonous regularity.

When they revamped Bristol's shopping centre a few years ago construction was disrupted whilst they defused one. Turned out it was about 100 yards from where my mum lived during the blitz.

Re: Attacking Bomber Formations

Hello Eastern 18th, welcome to the forum. Historically the .303 browning machine guns fitted to both the Hurricane and Spitfire during the battle made it difficult to shoot down bombers. The bullets were the same calibre as the Lee Enfield 303 infantry rifle and although there were four mounted in e...

Re: Geoffery Wellum

Yes, I got a chuckle out of it too. But it still doesn't explain the comment by speedy70. Different people interpret songs in different ways, especially if you haven't heard the song the bare text on a page can convey a different message. For example 'Born in the U.S.A.' by Springsteen isn't the od...
