Tweaks for Air Racing

Is there a simple way to edit the aircraft.cfg file to achieve the performance of the P-51s that race at Reno? The existing A2A aircraft is capable of about 300 MPH around the pylons. Stock racers at Reno run ~350 to 380 MPH, and the unlimiteds are near 500 MPH. Granted, there is no way to implement...

Re: Free P3Dv4 upgrade for existing A2A P3Dv3 customers

This may already have been answered (I searched the forum) but is there an easy way to determine when a P3D V4 version of an aircraft has been released? I have only a limited number of downloads available, and I don't want to waste them checking for upgrades.

Great job A2A!!

Re: Bf-109 Repaints

ebo -

Thanks. I though the issue was that dds and bmp files couldn't be mixed on the same aircraft. Knowing that the issue lies elsewhere is a big help.

Bf-109 Repaints

There are a number of excellent repaints at various locations on the web, but they appear to be incompatible with the A2A Bf-109 even though they ostensibly are compatible. The issue is that the Bf-109 that is distributed by A2A uses .bmp files for textures, and the other repaints are .dds. The 3rd-...

The original link is broken is there anywhere else to get these repaints?

Re: Cessna 172R Flight Characteristics vs. Previous Models

Scott - A2A - Thanks for the info. It's great that we have aircraft that are modeled so carefully that we can have these discussions. Regarding aircraft-to-aircraft variation, I can confirm that for the older versions of the 172's. I always attributed it to the pounding that rental aircraft receive ...

Re: Camera Views for Landing Practice in the 172

That's the best way to do it, but the problem I ran into is that the only unused camera definition between 0 and 19 was number 1. Since the pitot tube view was almost exactly what I wanted, I just changed the perspective a bit - it can still be used in preflight. The addition of number 1 doesn't aff...

Camera Views for Landing Practice in the 172

Below are two additional camera views that I've found useful when practicing landings in the 172. I wanted a 3D cockpit persistent view of two specific view points. There may be other ways to do this, but I couldn't find them, so I created the views below. When you take flight training in the 172 (o...

Re: Cessna 172R Flight Characteristics vs. Previous Models

I think I may have the answer. I have a copy of the official Cessna 172 1977 thru 1986 service manual. According to the manual, prior to 1981, the elevator trim tab travel was 28 degrees nose up, and 13 degrees nose down. In 1981 it was changed to 22 degrees up and 19 degrees down. The 172P was intr...

Re: Cessna 172R Flight Characteristics vs. Previous Models

Replies to some questions and tips:

Elevator trim is assigned to joystick buttons using the C172 input configurator.

I ran Accusim after deleting the folder containing client.wyc, no effect.

Same behavior when running AS16 or not.

No issues in the maintenance hanger.

Re: Cessna 172R Flight Characteristics vs. Previous Models

That's interesting. I'm running P3D v3.3 (latest version). I've been flying all afternoon and it consistently starts to raise the nose at 60 knots and the wheels leave the ground at 65 knots. At 79 knots it requires significant forward stick pressure to maintain that speed until retrimmed. If I leav...

Re: Cessna 172R Flight Characteristics vs. Previous Models

Yes and yes.

Payload is full fuel, full oil, 170 lb pilot. Field elevation is 700 MSL, temp is 78 F. Flaps are full up. Take-off trim setting is "take-off". Full throttle at take-off, mixture full rich. Local winds are set to zero MPH.

Re: Cessna 172R Flight Characteristics vs. Previous Models

Yes, everything is the latest and greatest. There are other threads in the forum where pilots with 172 experience have questioned the take-off behavior at the standard trim setting. None of those threads discussed the issue of why the R model might be different from previous models, hence my questio...

Cessna 172R Flight Characteristics vs. Previous Models

First, thanks to A2A for another great aircraft. I have a question about the flight characteristics of the 172R vs. previous models. I have several hundred hours experience flying 172Ls, Ms, and Ns (as best I can determine from my log book). I have never flown an R model. The only significant differ...
