Thanks John for the response ........ interesting comments.
Thanks also Alan for that link on paintkit info. There's a bit there to read and absorb.

story of my life....!!Nope just overlooked
Thanks for the replies. Gives me some direction now.
I'll do some experimenting.
I learned a long time ago (to my cost) that there's never a substitute for backing up.but save the original somewhere safe

Specular DDS Question
Still learning...... I've done a repaints of both the C172 and C182. In both cases I used the default specular DDS file which seemed to be quite satisfactory. I have noticed that all the speculars for the A2A 172 paint jobs are the same (default). However, the A2A C182 speculars are each diff...

Re: STEAM username and A2A Group
G'day Lewis Everything is fine and working with the 172 and Cherokee in the Microsoft FSX installation. I'm not convinced that the simconnect.msi actually installs the dll on my setup. Checking the version of the currently installed simconnect.dll in Steam FSX it is 10.0.62607 and if I look back a c...

Re: STEAM username and A2A Group
I've found that the C172 and the Cherokee generally run OK except for a few toggle switches. In Cessna none of the toggle switches work except the pitot heat. The park brake won't activate with the mouse. The Piper has all switches working, but the beacon and nav lights aren't showing, landing light...

Re: Repaint File Size
Thanks Allan for that. I had a look at your repaints ....... simply awesome. I'm never going to be THAT good, but it's something to aim for  I did a comparative test on the Lancair Legacy I'd recently done. (Bearing in mind that I'm still running the on board graphics 'till I get the replaceme...

Re: Repaint File Size
Got my PC back yesterday and checked out the DDS file size.
You were right Nick, turning off the MIP map creation brings the file size back to normal

Re: Repaint File Size
Thanks Lewis
I based my repaint on a Piper PA-28-180 Archer G-BEYL http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/G-BEYL.html and modified the tail section a little to suit my tastes.

Re: Repaint File Size
Thanks for that Nick. I think that's the reason for the increased file size.
I can't verify this at the moment.....my PC is in the repair shop getting a new graphics card.
I'm sure however I had the MIP Maps option checked.
Cheers

Repaint File Size
I'm relatively new to repainting, having fun and producing quite acceptable repaints. However, I've noticed that my output DDS files for both the A2A C172 and the Piper Cherokee are around 21.3 Mb compared to the other liveries for these a/c are around 16.3 Mb. I'm using Photoshop CS2 (it was free !...

Re: My take on voice activated checklists
I've done a little work on the Sim Voice Checklists Editor to pick up a couple of minor glitches and add a couple of improvements. This has made the editor a bit more flexible and in addition has added the ability to export the checklist being edited to an RTF file which will give users the opportun...

Re: My take on voice activated checklists
Thanks Paul. Maybe I should have held off issuing it.........I knew this would happen, but it suddenly occurred to me in the middle of the night, when a file is loaded for editing it gets appended to anything already in the editing window, which is not what is wanted  Just one very short line ...
