I just got the game today from Shockwave.

Also dl patch v2.06 and multi-skins.

Loaded the game and patches and everything works fine until i click on fly to load a mission. Any mission instant or campaign.
It then goes to what should be a loading screen. I get a lovely pic of the sea with aircraft high in the sky. No loading bar or any sign that its loading. Nothing happens. I let it sit for over 5 minutes(timed) nothing.

I have a gaming pc with nividia 7800gt and 1.5 ram. Run an asortment of games of several types including 5 flying sims with no problems.
I use a Satiek Evo joystick that works with all of them.

Ive tried dl the latest windows direct X drivers and Saitek drivers and that didnt help anything.

The game loads from the dt icon with no game disc. Thought maybe that was the problem so i tried to start it up with the disc in and it just went to the setup wizard used to install the game so i assume no disc is required once the game is loaded on the hard drive.

Please can anyone give me any suggestions ?
Thank you

Just found another thread on this very problem. Please hold off on any suggestions, I try whats suggested there and get back to this thread.

Hi, and welcome to BOBII.

Yes, you do not need the game CD to play BOBII.

Do you run Norton? We are having all kind of problems with Norton.

Your virus software is preventing the loading of files. It will complete loading if you just let it keep going but it may take a while.

You will need to shutdown your firewall and virus software as it is treating the BOBII files as a threat and that is why you are loading slow.

Please let me know what firewall and virus software you run?

Look this thread over as well:

Hi,

Norton can be a real pain!
Originally, I was getting on average 20minutes load time for the first mission of any new flying session, with up to 10 minutes for subsequent missions.

Now, after turning off Norton Internet Security & Antivirus, I also go into CTRL-ALT-DEL and look at the various processes still running.

There is one called ccApp.exe
This is Norton still running in the background - turn this process off, and I can be up in the air in less than 2 minutes on the first flight of the day.

Take a look at my original thread:
http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8111

Good luck!
Rob

Thanks to all of you who took time to reply to my help call.

I used the tips posted by Buddye as best i could( pc tech rating 5/100 here hehe).
I have the following:
No routers
Windows xp firewall
Spybot search and destroy
Ad-Aware
Spyware Dr.
Norton

I i can find no way to turn Spybot and As Aware off so assmume they have have no active av

After defrag , Reg. cleanup, etc i reloaded the game and patch 2.06.
Unplugged my wireless isp and turned off Spyware Dr and Norton.

Booted the game and tried an instant mission. It loaded but load time was long, much longer than i would think reasonable. I then added patch 2.06.1
I tried several missions and most loaded, once or twice it started to load then went to a black screen with the mouse cursor showing. Had to shut down pc manually and start over.

I havent tried closing down Norton in the background as described by Cpsbomber but will soon to hopefully cut down load times

I must say my 5 other fight sims and 15 + other games have no problems with all of my protection running. I would think that there must be code that could be added through a patch to make the game less sensitive to av running. This is a real pain in the butt to have to do all this every time i want to play.

One other thing: I use the Satiek Evo joystick, does anyone have a button map setup for this stick handy ?

Hi Ironhat2,

Here is a link to the key descriptions which should help you getting set up.

http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/v ... php?t=8331

Norton has been a big problem for us and others. I have yet to figure out why Norton thinks the BOBII files are a threat and need to be checked. Most of the gamers (including the IL2 guys and most all of us) have uninstalled Norton as it is just too invasive and hard to contol.

With 1000's of customers only Norton and Bit Defender give us problems loading files. The problem is in Norton's software (our files are like everyones files) so there is nothing we can do to fix it.

thanks for the Evo link.
Im starting to think maybe i should dump Norton.
I wonder if Spyware Dr alone would do the job or maybe you could recommend another AV program that wont mess up the game yet give me good protection.

Hi Ironhat2,

Most of my IL2 customers have uninstalled Norton and now use less intrusive security SW.

Here is some thoughts from our IL2 customers on Norton:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/ ... 044955/p/7

They make some recommendations that most all our guys agree with.

Hope it helps.

I junked Norton and any Symatic files, did a registery clean.
Loaded AVG AV and AS free programs.

Just flew 3 missions, load times averaged 3min 20 secs.

Seems much better now.

Thanks again for all the help.

Hi Ironhat2,

Load times are a function of CPU and memory speed. The new Core 2 processors and fast memory really speed up the loading of files significantly.

Example, on my rig I load the Historic London Mission (first time) in 35 seconds. The second load of the same mission is 21 seconds.

We hope you enjoy BOBII. Take your time as it has many options and features and a learning curve. Please take a quick review of the "best" User Manual in the flight sim business ( look in the BOBII folder, in the docs folder for our 307 page manual and Key Map).

Try to keep your FPS at the high 20's to low 30"s for good game play (very short time under that is OK).

Performance biggest savers in BOBII (you may be able to run High but check it out):

horizon distance = medium (saves 15%)
weather = medium
particle density = Medium
Object Density = medium

Wow, that is high for a system without Norton. What CPU and RAM do you have (sorry if you already said so and I overlooked). How long for the default mission? I don't think I ever heard someone have more than 3 min on that, even my laptop is faster than 3 min.

If the loading time is an issue there are two things you can do:
- Switch off Multiskin in the bdg.txt (searching for multi should find it - if not ask)
- Also in the bdg.txt there is a setting so it starts out paused, so you can start a mission, make a tea, come back, play. (searching for pause should find it - if not ask)

AMD 3.0+, 1.5g ram, Nividia 7800gt

I feel 3 minutes is long but it sure is better than 10 i had with Norton turned off and its sneaky thing still running in the background.

Ill check into your suggestions thanks.

Then im used to long loads with the Silent Hunter series but still ....

Just check bdg file:
pause setting was OFF , i assume thats what you were suggesting ?

What are the load times with disabling the new Antivirus Antispyware stuff you added as replacements to the Norton/Symantec cr@p?

I havent tried disabling the AVG av and sw.
Dont think i need to as i just took Spyware Dr off the harddrive and now load times are about 1 min -1min 30 secs.
With sw dr off it was around 3-5 so it also must have had something still running in the back ground.

Hopefully now im down to reasonable laod times. Thank you all for taking the time to help out with this.

That is with MultiSkin on? Then those times are pretty much what I expect and show you have a very powerful system :).

Yes, 1 minute and 30 seconds for the first load on a large mission is not too bad.

I am happy you dumped the invasive Norton and Spyware software. Software you can not easily control and manage is just not my cup of tea. I can not tolerate software that will not obey me.

I am sorry for all the Norton bashing but I am just so tired of the problems it is causing with our new BOBII customers. It is very negative for a new customer to not be able to load because of a new version of Norton. I am at a loss what to do about it in the future.
