Given the many video clip threads, Spitfireace had a good idea of having a central thread for that purpose similar to the “Post Screenshots Here” one. Here is a list of recent video clips and video related threads:

I was just about to start the same topic, a little explanation on what i was thinking videos would be good for a part that being a lot of fun.....

Well, as the topic name suggests, a place to post your videos. Lately SeaVee has been making some very good videos, and he got me into it so i bought Fraps, video capturing software, and i also made a few. There are a few ways to capturing videos, converting them to other formats to then be able to update it to google video or youtube for examples. SeaVee is most experienced at this procedures, and has already posted the way he is doing them at the moment. However we are still looking for better ways to keep the file small and the quality good.

I think videos are quite interesting, for example to see how other players fly, dogfight, land or simply to catch them amazing moments either on combat, on maneouvres as landing or take off, or free flying that this flight sim lets us enjoy.

Experienced players would be curious to see how other players fight or land or fly etc... so they can improve even more and discuss stuff, and new players could get some help as to how to attack the enemy aircraft and try to get on his six, or on landing procedures, taking off, aerobatics, acrobatics, free flying, etc...

Captured Videos are just how each one who post the videos do things, doesn´t mean is the correct way to do it. Everyone flies and fights on a different way, but watching someone else might help a bit.

Great job on that first post recollecting the videos topics SeaVee.

Also if anyone has any tips or tricks on capturing video, editing and uploading, this is the place. We´ll all try to improve together.

Ulead Video Studio 10 Plus.

www.ulead.com

They have a functional 30 day trail demo that has almost all the full features ads the purchase version.

The Plus version has alot more features than the standard 10 - especially more MPEG4 capabilities I think. I tried the Trial version a couple days and then bought and D/l'd the full 10 PLUS version. Very happy with it so far. Blows away Roxio Easy Media Creator 8.

I can post or PM specific tips on using it later if you want. On top of everything else i am Mr. Mom with my little girl tonight and now she has a fever... Will check in later.

Regarding Ulead Video Studio See also their user forums - very helpful:

This is my first dogfight with tir4 enabled, instead of using the top hat switch in joystick, its pretty good to keep track of enemy aircraft, but confuses me a little bit on external views, but im getting used to it. The only thing is to keep the gunsight where its got to be, sometimes it gets "out of the way" sort of thing, i guess thats when you have to press center?

Also a bit of low flying at end of vid, and external views using Tir.

I captured this with fraps, and then convert it to mp4 ipod..... dont know if thats the right way but waiting for Seavee to let me know how he converts it to Mp4.

Cheers. Video:

Spitfireace,

For the TIR issues see my answers here:
http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/v ... 4973#54973

When I use ulead and am ready to outputed my edited project video file I am selecting the following custom options:

SHARE tab (at top right) >>>> Create Video File >>>>> Custom >>>> Save as type MPEG4

In the options for MPEG4 I select in the General Tab:
Frame rate 25
Frame size 640X480

In the Compression tab:
Video data rate 850 kbps
Audio Frequency 48,000
Audio Bitrate 192 kbps

I am still learning the program so these options may change over time. Its what I have used in the last couple video clips and the quality seems better.

Look again at the other post where I set FRAPS capture settings at 25 FPS, 1/2 of my in-game playing resolution and in the BoB2 BDG.txt file
SMOOTHEN_FRAMERATE_MODE=LIMITED when initially capturing raw video for video projects.

Just a question.

I understand you use Fraps to record the in game videos.
I tried to do the same but recording stops after 30 seconds. How do you unlock this ?

Are you using the freeware version of FRAPS or the full "purchased" version? I have no idea if the freeware version may have limitations on length of time to record or other limitations.

Are you perhaps running out of hard drive space as you capture video?

One of the the things with FRAPS is the file sizes are huge. I found limiting the FRAPS capture rate to 25 FPS and setting in the BoB2 BDG.txt file the smoothenframerate line to "limited" made the file sizes much more manageable.

Try also looking at the FRAPS website - maybe there's an FAQ or tech help section ? ? www.fraps.com

Let me missuse this thread.

We have one volunteer working on documenting the new video features. However he is making very slow progress. I would like to have one more volunteer to go into before the unwashed masses do. Requirements would be a bit of time in the coming week or two, a bit of technical knowledge (say what is the internal speaker versus your sound card and where do you hear them?), motivation, a bit of video knowledge (say how to use fraps).

Read through the the "chain of letters" - um - "documentation" - I wrote. Test it. Listen to your sound card and the inbuilt speaker for the standard windows "ok" sound. Make a test video and understand the new feature(s). Rewrite the doc. Add your own infos/ideas/experiences re screenie/video making in general or specific to BoB.
