Group flight Sunday, May 20th: Calling all Connie pilots

Aid Flight to La Paz

Image

In the late 1940's . . .

To all Constellation crews:

The recent massive earthquake in South America has devastated the city of La Paz, Bolivia. Many of its citizens require immediate evacuation. Our task is to provide shuttle flights to ferry in supplies and aid workers, and to fly out evacuees.

Assemble at Coronel FAP Carlos Ciriani Santa Rosa International Airport (SPTN), Tacna, Peru, after 1800 Zulu for a 1900 departure.

Route:
La Paz El Alto International (SLLP) is 151nm away on a bearing of 058.

The highest terrain directly on the route is Mount Sirk'i Qullu, which rises to 18,196ft. Higher terrain lies immediately to the north. Pilots should fly to the SOUTH of this mountain.

Weather is expected to be - Clear.

GPS? No. Anachronistic and unnecessary. Be happy there are VORs.

Note:
La Paz El Alto lies at an elevation of 13,325ft. We recommend that you carry a minimal (but safe) amount of fuel that will allow you to fill all the seats at La Paz and still get off the ground.
The earthquake has rendered the (ahistorical) main runway unusable. The active runway is the 6,500-foot dirt strip, 10L/28R, on the north side of the airfield.

Meet on JoinFS Skypark hub.
Comms through A2A Discord community.

See you guys there! Last Sunday my son and I built a beautiful 4' by 8' raised bed for SWMBO, and have thereby accumulated several "Attaboys." Of course, I know that 1,000 attaboys can be blown away by one "Aw s**t," but it is what it is. Looking forward to Sunday's flight.

Glad we're not flying relief supplies to the Big Island...

Hi,
many thanks for your invitation to this group flight.

Toby75, the CEO of my virtual Andras Meridian Airlines who posted and intentionally wanted to participate in the previously planned group flying event as of May 13th unfortunately may not participate in this rescheduled group flight event. So I will remain the only one from this VA to participate in the event.

Up to now I only own the A2A Comanche which I like very much and in which I participated in late 2017 in an very interesting airtour across the Continental United States, landing at least once in any state.

For this particular rescue flight to La Paz I will fly a Connie by AH/JF. I'm looking forward talking to you during this group flight.

Kind regards

Gernot aka AMA230

It was an excellent flight!
Connie looked great!

Unfortunately, I could not make a return flight, but I really enjoyed flying in such a friendly company.

It's part of the "NVIDIA/Geforce Experience" or something. One of the card's capabilities; no apparent frame rate loss, and I have On/Off assigned to a hotkey. Neat, huh? Oh, and TrackIR, of course.

Hi guys,
Thanks for this wonderful adventure and Ratty thanks for your video clips.

Below please find some pictures I took from our groupflight.

Rolling to runway 20 at SPTN, Tacna.
Image

In front of me my companions, two Connies a C 172 Skyhawk and a PA 24-250 Comanche on the way to La Paz actually circling to gain height to cross the mountains.
Image

Approaching SLLP, La Paz. While my companions decided to land on rwy 28R I decided to go for an NDB approach to rwy 10L.
Image

I'm taxiing at the end of rwy 10L towards the terminal area where the two other Connie's are already loading their passengers.
Image

No time for a quick coffee break! In a rush my companions are hurrying to rwy 28R for the return flight, however. now with max take-off weight at challenging 13,313 feet elevation and from a dirty runway with a length of only 6,562 feet!
Image

On the way back to Tacna a nice formation flight of three Connie's.
Image

After about two hours flight back again at Tacna.
Image

Thanks guys for this nice flight together.
