I knew Jim Lacey, and his daughter Min, many years ago. A very nice bloke. Glad he got a blue plaque - he deserved one.

Did he ever talk about the war? Or was he like most of that generation , very reticent about their experiences.

He would sometimes, but it was rare. At the time, he was the pilot at the parachuting centre at Grindale near Bridlington, of which I was a member. ( That was the venue for Min's 16th birthday parachute jump, which is mentioned in the linked article. ) One night in the bar, he pointed out to some boisterous young parachutists that he too had done skydiving - right through the middle of a dogfight. Thirty-six years on, it was said that he still kept glancing into the sun, even while flying a Cessna 206 over peaceful Yorkshire.

Did I? I thought I'd mentioned that I once 'bailed out' of an aircraft being flown by a Battle of Britain ace - I usually do drone on about such things, as Lewis will attest.
