Hi: First,
is this BoB, or BoB2? BoB2 has the subtitle "Wings of Victory",
and is downloaded from the A2A store, or can be found as
hardcopy, with artwork as seen at the top of this page
https://a2asimulations.com/store/index. ... 2733b6e122

Rowan's original BoB may still be available somewhere as
either download or hardcopy, but will presumably be
associated with artwork of this appearance:

Next, there is only one update to install, the latest patch
from the BDG is 2.13, available from the link in this forum,
and it ONLY works with A2A BoB2. Loading it over Rowan's
BoB will result in crashes of unknown nature.

(There are old BDG patches for Rowan's BoB, aka BoB1, which
may be locatable on the web. The last one was v0.99).

Ah, OK. Well, you will have noted the comments in the
patch 2.13 Install Notes, that our experience with Win10
has been spotty, to say the least. With Win8, BoB2 simply
did not run. With Win10, we get reports of complete success,
complete failure, and many points in between. Most common
is it works, but crashes upon alt-x exit, which means
campaign saves don't get written, so only the Instant Action
can be played, which considerably cripples the sim. However,
reports such as yours have come in occasionally. This was
the typical failure mode for Win8 - crashing after a few minutes
of 3D.

We have a couple of volunteers chipping away at the problem.
but not much success so far. We are far far too small a fish
for microsoft to bother to even answer our enquiries about
what could be wrong. Currently our suspicions are drifting
toward the possibility that Win10 is throttling the access to
CPU RAM for temp video writes under DX9, and BoB2 uses a
lot of video. This would imply that turning down all the option
settings would result in improvement, but no such clear cut
effect has been yet found.

If you read through the forum here, you will see a variety of
reports, with different settings re compatibility, and options,
and the results don't ever seem to be reliably repeatable,
so at the moment, it seems it may be worthwhile to try
a lot of variables - native installation, W7 (which you tried...)
or XP compatibility, setting all video options to low, etc.
We don't have any specific recommendations. I just keep all
my computers in W7, and several others have added W7
dual boot drives to their machines to solve the problem.
(Don't throw away any old W7 discs, they're going to be
good for more than just BoB2).
