This was unexpected. :)

Looks like it is going to be a great year for flight simulation: we've got the A2A Texan (albeit unfortunately it hasn't had much flying time for me yet), maybe the FSLabs A320, the PMDG has a couple of releases for ones flying that kind of stuff, the DCS may get to 2.0 and several interesting modules are maybe getting released, Orbx released their new "unified" way to handle the regions and is up to some quite nice-looking releases... and now this one. Oh my! This genre was supposed to be dead some years back!

A B24 is not what I would call an airliner :) ...

The B24 doesnt fit the 'Captain of the ship' civilian thing though...

The best case scenario is that this will be a DC-3 (finally.....) since it's one of the most iconic aircraft next to the Concorde and 747. My second guess is in agreement with everyone else being the C46. I doubt it would be the DC6 since I do believe that PMDG will be releasing an FSX version.

What an exciting announcement! :)

My guess would be the C-54/DC-4 as well. As already mentioned by others, A2A has a close relationship to the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation. Which means that A2A has access to the aircraft, the pilots and the mechanics. That's a very rare opportunity these days.

Btw. AirDailyX.net will have a live broadcast of the unveiling from the A2A booth on Saturday morning:
FSX/P3D. Attending? Be sure to Join Scott and myself at the A2A booth Saturday morning @ 10am where Scott will be unveiling the New Captain Of The Ship aircraft! Additionally, we will be broadcasting this announcement live right here on AirDailyX.net so be sure to be tuned in to see the new aircraft unveiled live!

While I've completely appreciated their sentiment here, considering the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum is local, I kind of hope they aren't still stuck on it. Unfortunately, MAAM-Sim's aircraft aren't getting any younger, nor have they been properly ported to FSX (from what I hear). It'd be a shame to see them let such an aged add-on take care of the demand.

With that being said, though, the more I think about it the more I'm hoping they aren't doing a DC-3. I'd love to see something fresh and unique; something that hasn't necessarily been done before. Something that makes me want to park the single engine props for a bit and see what this airliner stuff is all about

If it will be the Boeing 314 Clipper i really going to go nuts.
That will be an airliner that is very SPECIAL and i think the best candidate for an A2A AccuSim Captain of the Ship.

What is your opinion?

I somewhat do hope it's not a Connie or a DC-4, seen I don't have enough time to fly the 377 already! A DC-3 would be great, a C-46 would be, well, AWESOME!!

People, let's make this simple. We can bribe one of the A2A staff to spill the beans! Here's how it can work:
