3P lives only in VBIB objects and not in Rowan objects!
That is good to know. Unfortunately almost all objects used now are VBIB objects now, I think.

Quoting myself:
Since these LoD changes didn't kill the bug, I'll resign myself to the fact that this can be killed only in the engine :-( (that is until any other bright  flashes by)

Yes. Thought this information would be useful to whomsoever attempts to kill it next...in Merlin code.

Well, it has finally happened. My hard-disk crashed this morning!

Got it replaced this afternoon.
Still, I lost all the 3D stuff I made so far, all the VBIB trees, Calais ruins, all little the utility scripts, LOD scripts and all the super deformed 'cute'plane models (like this one:

I wanted to use them in a flightsim spoof cartoon (got inspiration from Trumper's post on aviation art) that I wanted to make.
I had made these for Bf109E, Bf110, Stuka, Ju88, Do-17z, He-111, Ju-52, Fi-156, Me-163, Spit-1, Hurri, Defiant, C47, Bristol Blenhiem and DH-82 Tiger Moth and was about to publish the first cartoon with the me-163 and Fi-156 in my blog.
Lost Everything!
Bummer!
To quote Mr. Praline,
"'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't connected it to USB port 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is electro-magnetic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig!'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal induction coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!
However....
"Tis but a scratch!"

Just a minor speed-bump. Can overcome it. I know to what to write and how to write those scripts and how to build those 3D objects. Its just that I have to go through all of that again.
Time to rummage through the forum to salvage what I can and start over :-(
Maybe in this iteration I can make them better.

I am taking this opportunity to upgrade myself to the latest version of blender (and its corresponding python installation) and time to build a blender plugin for directly importing/exporting 3D VBIB bins.

Ah, I have a little USB external HD that I plug
in every couple of days, which automagically
makes a copy of everything I'm working on.
My BoBwork folder is about 40GB now. The
outboard drive has been in use since 2010, when
my archive became to big for a single DVD. It's
350GB, and it just finally filled itself last winter,
and I had to look into the storage and throw out
the 7th to 10th old save versions to make room
for more. That wasn't really enough, and I'll have
to do it again a bit more vigorously this summer,
when I have some time on vacation.

These things are pretty cheap, only about $65
here, although the one I have was a Seagate, and
I don't think you can get it anymore, but of course
the new ones are much bigger, though I don't know
how nice the backup software is. I didn't get a
SSD, as they were expensive and less reliable back
then, I don't know how they are now, I haven't kept
up, but I never go without a backup, when I spend
6mo to a year on a project.

Dear PV,
I never go without a backup, when I spend
6mo to a year on a project.
Sound policy.
I am not too worried about the current data loss as I have a "Baldricks-level" cunning plan to recover the lost data. To avoid a potential future catastrophe, I have procured an additional 2 TeraByte Western Digital external storage disk for ₹ 6500/- that will now have a new job of being my backup disk.
Going to follow your 2 day back-up schedule. 3D work stuff and notes go to disk, Google drive and a few key items to Mediafire and all the notes will be recorded in this forum.
