pilot seat curiosity

why does pilot fly in back seat? understand that for training it is better ..was the j3,used a lot for training civilians.

The back seat is used to remain within cg limits.

The J3 was used to train huge numbers of civilian pilots in the past and in some cases you still see it used for primary and tail wheel training today.

It is a wonderful airplane to fly and it is great for revealing weaknesses in your stick and rudder skills.
