It's time for me to buy a new PC, and A2A products figure heavily in what I will select. Right now I am using Windows XP on a desktop that has remained innocent of the internet and therefore has no antivirus overhead, with 4 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA G- Force video card. I use two monitors, and at the moment I only use headphones for sound since the dog destroyed my nice Altec Lansing speakers. I use my Toshiba laptop for general computing, and it is showing its 4 years of age lately.

I have two questions for anyone who cares to answer:

First, FSX is a zombie. MS is not developing it and neither is anyone else that I know of, and further, MS just killed Flight, which leads me to believe that their participation in flight sims can not be expected much less relied upon. Is A2A developing a flight simulator to replace FSX? I have seen comments that indicate so, and it seems logical that they would. How far out is it? What components will be needed to make it function at its best? I am sure I am not the only one who feels that if you don't have accusim, you don't have jack - the other airplanes from other companies, while nice in many ways, are just lacking after using accusim.

Second, assuming we're going to use FSX for a while, what are the most important specs that I must meet to get a nice smooth frame rate while ratcheting up my traffic, weather and other options? I am going to be able to spend a little money on it soon, and while I would like to go berzerk and get the bleedingest edge machine ever, I really should shoot for the performance I want at the least cost.

If this has been addressed before, please don't be cross with me, I tried to find the information in the forum but had no luck.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Bill W.

Hi billweaver,
Well, to answer your first question, Lockheed Martin picked up the FSX platform in the form of what they call "Prepar3D." Here is a link ot their site: http://www.prepar3d.com/
I haven't heard of A2A developing a sim to replace FSX. They have their own stand alone sim in the form of the Battle of Brittain II and some talk about making a sim for the Flying Tigers but that's still just kind of a discussion.
In regard to your computer....I would focus on your memory, video card for a performance jump.
Hopefully this was some help to you.

Many threads out there exist, remarking on FSX's thirst for CPU power over GPU, they're mostly 1-2 years old though. So I'd imagine most machines built with todays tech' will run fairly well.
