I was just looking at the 325 FG web site. Very interesting reading.
Of course they made extensive use of the P-40, P-47 and P-51 but the part I found most interesting is the account of their shuttle mission to Russia.
It was so secret that they were not told until the very late. The maintenance team that was going with them found out that for the trip over they were suddenly aircrew on B-17s for the flight over.
Once they completed the job in Russia they then fought their way back on another B-17 mission.
