PostPosted: Sat Mar 03, 2012 11:24 pm
Hello,

Let me start from the Beginning, I purchased a Computer about 2 years ago and pretty much built it for fsx or so I thought. I am not a Mega PC savvy guy, so I had my cousin help me out and pick out all my stuff to put it together.

According to others my FSX should be running really good but im doing awesome if I can muster 40 frames. Especially at night with other aircraft I only get about 8 frames in busy airports like Chicago or so. I will give a description of my computer and maybe someone can help me tweak this baby out.

I am not running any scenery except for the ORBX PANW demo scenery, I am running Just flights' Traffic addon but that is about it. this is my system components.

System, Windows 7 64 bit (6.1,Build 7601?)
Bios: Phoenix- Award BIOS v6.00PG
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 920 preocessor 2.80 GHZ
And my Video card SHOULD BE a Nvidia GTX 260 but when I go to Device Manager it ALSO shows an Nvidia GeForce 8300 Chipset. I am not sure WHICH is the one in use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Jerry D. Witt

I forgot to add that I am running an ASUS motherboard but I am not sure what its specs are to be honest.

You do require DX 9c for FSX
What is you FSX
ie:FSX with service packs 1+2 or
FSX with Acceleration
Frame rates should be set around 30 in FSX or set with an external limiter

not sure what an FSX IE is. I dont use a limiter since I never go past 30 fps, For the first time I had noticed the nvidia 8300 chipset, so I looked into it and its a GPU that comes with the motherboard I believe,I did Deactivate the 8300 and it seems to be runnning way faster. If you have a 3rd party FPS limiter I would be much obliged.

I dont seem to have a problem with Fsx Direct x. Never any problems with compatibility or anything like that. So I know I have direct x 11 but it runs just fine with the 9. Now I have had the slow pc problem ever since 9 and have seen no difference with x 10 or x11 runs just the same. You think it could affect the program peformance?

I also dont know what the cpu threads are. My peformance cpu usage is always really low like 3 percent but my THREADS on the same peformance sheet is 1100 or so. it only give me an option up to 16.

Thanks for all the tips guys, Looks like with the FPS limiter im getting only about 16 fps TOPS, im tweaking a little bit to see what works best. Ive got the fsx.cfg tweak also and that seemed to help a lot. Also looks like the chipset had nothing todo with the speed of my pc and it was all in my mind lol.

If you guys have any more tips let me know! thanks!

Honestly I think your system is doing all right.
After all your CPU and GPU in today’s environment are to be considered slow.

People who fly e.g. a PMDG NGX into JFK with 30 FPS usually have a big i7 with ~4,5GHz combined with an GTX480/580 or even stronger.
Such a system also runs tripple channel DDR3, probably beyond 2GHz.

I doubt tweaking will solve your issue.
The best tweak is stronger hardware I'm afraid.

However you may want to set your frame rate limit in FSX to “unlimited” and set a new frame rate limit via the Nvidia Inspector in the MS Flight Simulator X profile of your GTX260.
You have an Nvidia video card so using the external FPS limiter recommended by Bojote Tweaking page is a waste of time.
Nvidia features an build in FPS limiter in their drivers if you use version 296.10 or higher. It is a hidden function accessible thru mentioned Nvidia Inspector.

Note: I'm running a small i7 at 4GHz and GTX580 with double channel DDR3 at 2GHz and flying my PMDG JS4100 into JFK with AI around will result in low single digit FPS...

I was talking to a a guy that all he does is build pcs he said what i need to try is to sli my nvidia card to another. He said my ram is good and my processor is ok but for the power fsx guzzles I need two cards. Ive got lots of ram and space for even more. Just bought my first set of ddr3s. Im gonna try to sli two gtx 260s. I dont fly congested airspace airliner stuff so no biggie there. Thanks for the help though. I was afraid it would come to this.

You're only going to see an SLI benefit with FSX when running extreme resolutions where I understand it helps alleviate some of the extra load of anti-aliasing so many pixels. I run FSX with 3 screens using a Matrox th2go and the difference for me is very noticeable between 1 card or 2 cards. However, if you are just running a single monitor with a standard resolution, I wouldn't bother. Some have even claimed that it makes things worse. Obviously other games will benefit by SLI in that circumstance.

Norforce....
Quick question.....on the same subject.
I have a Compaq Laptop, that i use my FSX on.....I also use it for the web.....
I know i cannot add to the Celeron processer. Being this is a laptop, Is their any way to increse the performance of FSX with out loosing scenery in the process...?
Aside from buying another laptop with a larger CPU and better processor.
