I am looking at this right now as I am overweight by about 60 pounds,in more need of physical exercise and have only fairly short destinations (just 10 mile round trips) so far.One can easily get overweight and have other health problems or die at an early age by lack of exercise (using a motor vehicle doesn't help in this area by inactive travel over a couple of decades). It happens especially as you get older although one of my good friends who is 17 years younger than me is much heavier at 300 pounds weight.I don't want to get that heavy.I'm at around 240 pounds weight so I have damaged ordinary bikes (my legs however are quite strong and I recently broke a freewheel cogset pedaling likely due to stresses uphill).I recently injured my right foot (Planter Fasciitis) walking while carrying heavy groceries a bit of a distance however I seem to have no problems with cycling at all.
One of these as I also have need of carrying a bit of cargo too.I'd like to carry some groceries or other items. These are designed for heavier weights/cargo.It seems like ordinary bikes are inadequate for my needs.

The bicycle is a great way to get in good excercise, as well as transportation. You have to start out somewhere, but once you get to where you've spent a few months training and working, you'll really notice you go faster, and get more out of it. I usually go on a ride or two with a local group on the weekends, its about 30-45 miles depending on where I turn around (you'd be surprised how fast a group of guys between 39 and 67 can go!), although sometimes I'll do a 60-mile ride from Ventura to Santa Barbara. My record for highest speed was an average 32mph going up a false-flat highway section, when I was second from the front in the paceline; although all the guys go as fast as they can to impress each other, having the 'kid' keep up was the most impressive to everybody! So if you start out riding, at least twice a week, you'll notice that the muscle memory will kick in pretty quickly, and I'm sure you'll get back into shape quite quickly. Also, if you're worried about damaging a new bicycle, try using a stationary bicycle, most of those big ones with the single wheel are pretty sturdy. Good Luck!
