Sound does not get louder when canopy is open, and this happens with the Spitfire, also.

Vista64, Asus laptop, all updates applied.

Maybe this is intended to be this way?

No, headset off. Sound does seem to increase, but just for 1/2 a second or so, then it's back to the previous level.

Yes, I do. I get all the other sounds, I just don't hear any noticeable increase of wind or engine noise when opening the canopy, except for just that instant that I mentioned. ??

Maybe I am looking (listening) for something that isn't there?

Complete specs:
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz
Windows Vista OS Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit with SP1
Hard Drive 320GB (7200RPM)
Screen Size 15.6" HD (1366x768)
RAM 4GB DDR2 667Mhz
Optical Drive DVD SuperMulti with Light Scribe
Direct Disc Labeling Yes
Graphics Card NVIDIA 9800M GS with 512MB GDDR3 VRAM

FSX Acceleration, Bojote's automatic tweak, a pair of cheap auxiliary speakers (but still better than the laptop speakers).

Is use Sennheiser TR-130 wireless headset (that's IRL headset, not the virtual headset you "put on" within Accusim). The transmitter normalizes the output so when there's a loud noise, it drops the transmission gain with a small delay. So, when I have for example P-40 idling and I move carb heat lever, the loud squeak makes the transmitter max out and drop the gain, resulting in perceived engine idling rumble to half in volume. That's a hardware problem, not bug but in P-40... and not actually a bug in hardware either (there's a reason why FM transmitter is normalized and it is to keep signal-to-noise ratio (i.e SNR) as low as possible (without clipping).

Are you using a wireless headset?

EDIT: should have read your post completely as you said you use auxiliary speakers. I doubt they normalize the signal like wireless headsets do as SNR trouble is mainly a problem with wireless audio transmission. Wired audio has so low noise it doesn't require amplification to mask noise away.

I'm already thinking sound hardware issue, or sound software issue relating to the hardware, as Whiic mentions. What sound hardware is involved????

thanks,
Lewis

Well, it's a laptop (specs above) with Realtek onboard sound. Driver # 6.0.1.5794. That's it, as far as I know. :?

2.1 (simple stereo), I suppose.

I guess it's not that big of a problem, I still enjoy flying these addons, just...looking for the full range of sounds.

Interesting note that may help diagnose this problem. Last night, I took the Accusimmed B-17 up for a flight, which I haven't done for a long time. And opening the side windows DID cause the engine/wind noise to become much louder! ???

Any idea why this would work, but not the fighters?

If you can hear the sound of your switches, yes, opening the canopy in flight does not create wind, I cannot think of a single possibility this could happen.

Can you try perhaps turning off your engine in flight and then opening the windows? I wonder if this is more of a perception of wind sound coming over the engine sound.

Scott.

Scott, sorry it took so long for me to acknowledge you post, combination work and computer problem. I will try the above and report back.

edit:

OK, did the engine off deal (Spitfire MkII), and while the sound initially gets louder, after a 1/4-1/2 second, it reverts to a softer sound. No one else seems to have this happening, so maybe I am crazy. But I don't think so, the volume definitely increases for just that short interval, and then reverts to normal (canopy closed) level. ?!?

I want all my money back from all the Accusim products I have ever bought, and I want it now!!

Haha, just kidding, still the best in FSX! :P

mmm wonder if your sound card software has some kind of auto volume levelling turned on?

Not that I can locate, anyway. Should have a new machine shortly, so this is probably all academic, anyway. Thanks for the input, btw.

Li'lJugs.
I am also useing a Laptop...Basically just a walmart special...Windows 7, Intel Celeron...Its a compac computer.
i have the the P-40 with accusim....
Try making some changes to the sound in FSX....

Start FSX, go to settings.....click sound.....Set Volume levels to 50 percent, this is for: Engines, Cockpit, Enviroment, and Voice....
They are the sliders in the middle of the page.
Next:....Below them are 2 drop down boxes.......One for sounds.........And one for Voice.....
make sure they both read for the same set of speakers.....
When i plug in my externial speakers, i have to go teir and change the sound setting to show these speakers....

My system did the same thing, espically when i moved the sliders past 50 percent.....
