Hi all,
Has anyone found a work around for this yet? I too have this rear gunners not firing issue.
I'm running 2.11 with the skins mod on Windows 7 64 bit home premium.
I start a new campaign every time I teak anything and have tried all manner of settings.

I can form up with the Stukas and pop away at will with no return fire at all, they just sit there and take it.
I've tried reinstalling but to no avail.
Cheers

What mission are you running?

Try Turkey shoot with a JU87 and you flying a Spit. Set the Ju87 to HERO skill level. Does the JU87 fire?

I'm in the RAF campaign, not set squadron or plane type, just a basic campaign.
I'll try the Turkey Shoot after work, thanks for your reply.

Well, I am not sure what the specific problem is in your campaign (My LUF gunners seem to work OK) but I would guess it is a low skill level of the JU87 crew for your mission that is causing the gunner problem.

You can control the skill level in the SPC campaign with a BDG.txt option (if wanted). Ace and Hero skill levels for gunners result in more shooting and more accurate shooting. In the Commander Campaign you can control the LUF gunner skill with a menu option.

Option->Sim->Mission then set LU Skill Modifier = Maximum

Is there a way to change only the skill of the rear gunners.
I'd like to keep the fighters at a mixed skill level for variety.
cheers

Sorry, both the gunner and pilot are assigned the same skill level.

I'm not getting them firing back even with the skill modifiers in the bdg and main options screen set to hero.
The bigger bombers seem to be firing back so it's no great issue.
Thanks for your help.

Ironically i always found the gunners in il2 far too accurate but this is almost as bad if they are not firing at all.You need a mix of everything, some skillfull gunners that may hurt you, some lucky shots that happen to put a bullet in the same bit of sky as a plane and some awful ones who miss and fire more out of fear and the need to feel they are doing something.
This guy passed away recently and was a bit of an exception ,took rear gunning as team work with the other gunners and pilots, all working together for the aim of survival.

My old warrant officer in the air cadets was a rear gunner,i think he said he had 3 kills

Strange, I just started a new campaign and attack a large flight of JU87's and they shot me up so bad that I could not fly/fight effectly and had to return to base. I have no idea what is different. Try a new campaign as maybe you have a issue with your old campaign's savegame.

I've just totally reinstalled BOB2 after removing it all and using CCleaner (as per your advice on the performance post that's currently active). I started a new campaign (RAF channel phase) but can still form up with the Stukas a few lengths behind and above without being shot at apart from by just one (the leader) and he'll shoot at me even though he's the furthest away in the formation.

I even downloaded the 2.11 patch and tried it without multiskin.
Could it be the actual source installation?
My version was a disk version (came with a documentary on DVD) ordered from Amazon last Autumn.

To be honest it's no great drama the 109s are still a handful although the 110 rear gunners don't seem to be firing back either although I need to test that more.
Thanks
w

No your base BOBII is OK as the 2.11 patch will replaces most of it anyway.

Yes, check the 110's in Instant Action and the campaign. Also keep testing the JU87's in Instant action and a new campaign. Maybe you have a setting different than mine (but I can not think of any setting that would impact rear gunner shooting) as your new install should be the same as mine.

I do run with the following Bdg.txt setting (if you run it OFF you might give mine a try):

Do_You_Want_Increase_Firing_Rate_Of_Hand_Held_Gunners=ON

BOBII (and software in general) has always had strange issues that seem to impact specific individuals or PC environments. Of course everything becomes clear when until we can understand what is going on.

Does Squadron morale impact on gunners effectiveness?

I've seen twin engine bombers who kept formation with smoking engines but on other raids they breakaway if they get damaged, sometimes crews seem quicker to bail out than other times.
I wondered if this was due to morale lowering through the course of a campaign, after losses etc, if so that would be a variable outwith the settings?

No, morale does not impact gunner accuracy. It is skill level.

Moral does impact decisions (fight or run, bail or stay, etc).

I've never been lucky enough for them NOT to shoot at me :) so I cant say from experience, but the complaint doesnt seem to be about lack of accuracy but about the gunners not firing.

The lower skill levels shoot less frequent and less accurate as they are nervious, afraid, and do not know how to aim, and shoot very well.

I also do not have this problem but I do think there is a problem (maybe a different setting in the Bdg.txt or some other unidentified reason). It does not seem to occur in Instant action but both a few people in the Single Player Na Commander Campaign have reported it.
