Newest video to come out of AgentJayZ at S&S turbines.
They test run a J79 with the afterburner.
Some notes on the video... Turn down your sound... it's a very loud video... just saying don't hold me responsible for any speaker damage :lol:
Second the smoke coming off the engine at the beginning is nothing, just grease and oil burning off. And lastly that's not smoke coming out of the back of the engine but unburned fuel.

Here is a video of them testing the AB, and how to make a VDI. (shop kitty makes a guest appearance)

You should really take some time and watch Jay's other videos, he goes in great depth on the guts of a jet engine.

No problem Scott. Figured we're going to get to play with a J79 soonish so why not get to know it.

New video by Jay. He goes threw the afterburner section of the J79.

And at the end explains why the howl is not heard on the last J79 test.

I love watching this guys vids, thanks for taking the time to post them Sean.
I bought the Pilot's Manual (USAF + NASA) for the F104 so I could get to learn the systems etc. Being able to see the cut-away J79 on one of his other vids was a great learning tool after I'd read about the engine, especially being able to see some of the components for myself, like the adjustable Inlet Guide Vanes (IGV) etc.

I'd love to live next to that workshop, the sound of turbines would sooth me into blissful sleep.

Here, not amazing quality - but it captures that unmistakable sound;
