No open session this week as we're testing a connection through Hamachi instead of Gamespy. If everything goes well we'll post an "how-to" in this forum.

Happy flying,
David

No need for Hamachi - learn how to open ports on the server computer and you're good to go, without all the inherent security risks of running VPNs!

Best regards,
Robin.

We tried already Robin! Actually it was on the very first of our sessions one year ago. We all have widely different software and hardware configurations. I know this is hard to believe for an IT guy ;) but all of us are not very comfortable with their firewalls and routers. Romain and I managed a connection this way (so my router should be OK - port forwarding and so on but I'm no expert) yet it proved too painful to continue with the tweaking as we were trying to get more people flying with us. And so we reverted to Gamespy then. Hamachi seems a good trade-off...

Best Regards,
David

Robin;
I flew with a group that used a regular server (akin to GameSpy). We had joint FS9 & FSX planes. There were always "issues" with "Port Forwarding". Getting everyone connected, or finding who was causing bump-offs or preventing others from getting logged, on for these monthly events, was a royal "pain"!!
The host switched over to using the Hamachi, an initial caveat was immediately issued, since the program was, indeed, a Virtual Private Network, everyone was instructed to close ALL open programs that contained personal information (you shouldn't be balancing your checkbook when flying, anyway!!) We never had any problems and ALL the flights after going to the Hamachi were stutter/jitter/time-lag free!
For the B-17 & "Little Friends" group we have, I think our MP Flight experience will be way more enjoyable than before!! Looking forward to flying on the "new" set-up!

GW;
You missed a helluva good time, if not just a good flight.. Everyone was in "rare form" with jokes and "stories" to keep us laughing during the hours of the long (about five hour) flight. NorForce kept us "on track", navigationally speaking (and "nailed it")..

Not bad actually ;)
Unlike the cross wind and turbulence at Iwo Jima (on which we landed last night ;) ). Pictures will be uploaded soon.

Very good reason for that! Because the VPN is encrypted the ISPs can't see what data is being sent/received so don't traffic manage it (I won't say can't as they could simply say it is unidentified traffic so slow it down but it seems they don't do this).

Best regards,
Robin.
