Hello all,

TRUST ME, I've tried everything and there is NO ability to either select or prime any engine on the Accusim B-17 with my mouse. It might be a mouse issue, I don't know. What I do need is simple. Anyone know a keyboard command that will both select the engine and then allow me to prime it with the keyboard only? That's what I need...keyboard commands. I'm done trying to diagnose why it won't work with my mouse. It doesn't work. Tips / "have you tried this or that" for the mouse are not needed here. Please...if there is a keyboard option can anyone tell me what it is?? Thanks. To assign it to a keyboard utility, wouldn't you still need a viable keyboard command? Is there none assigned for this function???

Try the input configurator, it's in your A2A simulations folder under all programs in the start menu. You can assign all sorts of controls to the keyboard and control stick. What you are looking for is in there.

David.

PS
Does your mouse not have a track wheel? Thought they all did now.

Thanks David. Yes, my mouse has a track wheel that works for everything but the primer pumps in these aircraft. I don't know why. Here I have these very sophisticated aircraft and I can't manually start a single one of them because I'm unable to prime the engines. FRUSTRATING! There appears to be no factory assigned keyboard sequence from A2A for this function as no one has been able to say, "yeah, it's Cntrl + Shift 1 through 4 to select engines and then Shift +9 to prime." That's all I would need, but apparently it's a mouse only operation and my mouse won't do it. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate your time and help. Bob

Bob, dou you, by chance, have a registered version of FSUIPC? If so, that can be used to control
the engine select/prime function. Failing that, a small XML gauge could be created to handle the
primer engine select/prime function.

Stepping back, when you hover the mouse pointer over the primer pump handle, do you see
the tooltip "Primer (none)", assuming you have tooltips enabled?

If not, then there may be an issue with your eyepoint in the VC.

If you see the tool-tip and then rotate the wheel on the mouse and nothing happens, then the problem
would seem to be with the scroll-wheel of your mouse.

Does your scroll-wheel work on other controls in the B-17G VC such as the "Flying Suit Heater". the
"Interphone Jackl Box Switch" or the "Manifold Pressure Selector Dial"??

Very good questions Gypsy Baron. I don't see anything when I put the cursor on the primer pump. Could be that tooltips thing you're talking about. My mouse wheel works for everything outside of FSX...just not in it. In any case, I used the provided utility for B-17 key mapping and have assigned keys to operate the the engine selection and pump action of the primer and I'm happy to report that I made it through my first fully manual engine start. (very satisfying too, by the way!) Previous to this I've always had to run the auto start sequence, and let's face it, who buys accusim planes only to then run everything on auto??? Not me! I'm a former C-130 Flight Engineer and I love to tinker with the systems. LOL Thanks to everyone that posted a response. You guys are all awesome and you've helped me greatly. Cheers!!!

Glad we could help, the B 17 realy is a lot of fun to fly. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much as I am a bit of a fighter lad, should have seen the stupid grin on my face the first time I fired up the Spitfire :D

Hey David. I tend to be a bit of a WWII fighter jock too. Love all the fighters from that era and I'm itching to see an Accusim F4U Corsair (love the big radials) and an Accusim P-38 Lightning. My Dream Accusim would be the Grumman F7F Tigercat. Two R-2800 double wasps on one FABULOUS plane! BABY! Having been a C-130 flight engineer for 6 years, I'm also one that loves complex multiengine aircraft. I, too, LOVE this accusim B-17. She's such a sweetheart and a joy to fly. It's nice to be making the acquaintance of so many others that are sim enthusiasts too. Thanks again to all those that helped. Happy flying everyone! Bob

Make sure to turn fuel on and scroll over the primer and use your scroll wheel. Slect your engine and do startup sequence.

Bob60;
I flew my AccuSim B-17 for a short jaunt earlier today. I had read your post, but could offer no help until now.. I do the following without thinking, so it might be of some help for your situation..
My "start routine" is simple, start the APU, once power is "up and running", turn on all three battery switches, and start the hydraulic pump. I double check that the "Main Power" switch (on the center console) is on as are the Mag Switches. I switch to the Co-Pilot's seat, flip on the Fuel Boost Pump Switches to #3 and #1 Engines (#3 runs the Priming Pump, I start the engines as per my Dad's USAAF Manual 1-2-3-4). I move my cursor over the priming pump and "automatically" (the without thinking part), I Left Click on the center of the Priming Handle.. This brings-up the "tool tips" that tells you which engine the Priming Pump is set-on.. It is generally always on "None". I use the Scroller Wheel" to "twist" the handle to Engine #1 and left click to get it to "pump".. Do note, the "point" of the cursor has to "touch" the exact center of the priming handle before you left click the mouse.. then it works..
Another "oddity" I found.. I have to "left click" on the Flux Gate Compass' setting knob before I can use the scroller wheel to adjust the heading.. Same with the radios (they take forever to dial-up!)
I did not "program" my Mouse to perform any cockpit tasks, it "just does".
I'm still running XP (Pro SP3) and FSX Deluxe with the Acceleration Pack (includes SP1&2).. I don't know if that makes any difference, or not..
Give it a try.. this might work for you, as well..
