That's amazing! :D

If you decided to play a combat flight simulator with it (like Il-2 or battle of britain) would it be possible to use the reflector gunsight or not? ;)

Thanks mate!!

Yes, it should be, providing you can adjust the viewing angle in the sim like you can (raise lower seat) in FSX. The sight is in great condition and has a crisp ring and lines that are happily adjusted through the bottom range/target size rings.

When you follow the image in the pit though, you start to see why gunnery in the air was tricky. Theoretically head movement shouldn't affect it much but even small differences grow exponentially when taken out to 400yards.

I'm having a few days break now before getting her "flyable". That will be a treat but I fear that photo-wise, anything from here on in will spoil her lines (monitor tray, computer bay etc)

A brief "update" well, actually a step backwards:

I now find I need to build yet another camera control. The Camera Selector Unit. Until now I had never seen one, couldn't find one and was going to wing it with a 3 position switch. OFF/Oblique/Vertical. But Andy Fletcher to the rescue with a picture of the unit. Thanks mate!

Image

It seemed to have three switches and lights, and what I thought was a fuse box...details Andy confirmed for me soon after when he found the diagram:

Image

Luckily I have three supercharger type switches spare, two lights (and just found a third) and stumbled upon a fuse box that is very close or identical, provided it is the size i think it is when it arrives. And into the bargain I picked up a shallow two way AM switch for the OFF toggle!

More work but all for the good I suppose.

Thanks mate..as soon as the stuff arrives I will hopefully find some spare time to build the Selector  . Until then, a little more detail..the start of the copper piping for the pneumatics and hydraulics (for show only)

Thanks Phillip!

Rob, as requested:

Spitfire II

Spitfire I (with cannon)

Spitfire II A & B Pilot's Notes

The dipping lever is down for high beam and up for "dipped" The difference in the Spitfire I and II positions making it clear that the lever rotates to up rather than "lifts" vertically as the pilots note *could* be taken to suggest.

Give me a yell if you need better quality (600x600) pictures,

I have a "Daily Inspection" training film coming for the Mk I and hopefully that will have some useful film in it.

No problems Rob,

I've just ordered a second flap lever to go onto the Landing Lamp Unit. I will just have to make a casing and the dipping lever. I already have a threeway switch in the panel.

The pipe runs are almost finished to (on the U/C Unit) Pictures soon,

Thanks mate, appreciated.

The gauges are from a company called Flight Illusion. I'm not sure what the policy on links is here but you can find them easily with any search engine. The gauges were custom order and took nearly 12 months from initial discussion to arrival, but were worth the wait. I have had the panel working on the test bed and it looks fantastic to see all the gauges respond to throttle movements etc.

I stole a few moments from work yesterday to wire the controls (custom made here in WA) but the pots are shot and the whole thing needs to go back to the maker to re-engineer with different pots and a Leo Bodnar card. Such is life.

regards

Darryl

Opinions please guys...

I've received the Seat back with the leather cover done. At the moment it actually extends all the way down the back instead of the classic "half" slip that was used. This has been done with the offer to cut it down if I wish...it can be cut whereas extra couldn't be added after the fact.

Now whilst I would like the actual shape leather seat back, the full back IS a lot more comfortable for long hours (up to 4) in the seat..and my back is not as young as it used to be. AND the PRU were given significant leeway in many areas.

So should I

1: Get it cut down, after all the thing IS supposed to be a scale simulator

2: Tell the rivet counters to &&%&*& off, it is a PRU, Private Purchase item to make a long distance pilot's life easier.

How it should be (but mine is BLACK as the early seats should be)

How it is (BAD paintshop job by me!!)

I will be sitting in a parachute rig, on a parachute also...but one made with a soft cushion hanging down, not a hard as h*ll packed 'chute.

If that's how it should be then maybe that's the best option....

I must say that that cockpit is really looking awesome.
