Saw this http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=23546 thread over at SOH, and was wondering what others think of the A2A Cub in this respect?

My opinion, for the little it is worth, is in the thread.

I'm a student pilot that is currently training in a J3 Cub...as a matter of fact, I just bought my own Cub (thanks to the weak US economy, good deals out there!) last week and I think the A2A Cub is very realistic. But, there are some things needing improvement:

1.) The glide/float is too much (Scott said this has been tweaked for the patch!) To me, this was the biggie...

But, the other items are very minor and don't affect the realism for me:

2.) Needs a tad bit more p-factor implemented in the takeoff roll

With that said, the guy in that other thread was not flying a Cub, I think he said he was flying a Super Decathlon. The engine HP is much more than a Cub, hence more of a p-factor. The Cub in real life doesn't have much on takeoff...and it doesn't take much right rudder. Once you fly it a few times, you forget it's there. Now, in windy conditions with crosswinds, you do need to do the rudder dance.

Some things are being tweaked but do remember guys and girls that the model was made side by side with people such as Mitchell and Dudley

Skunker,

I think this is down to control sensitivity and perception, as the J-3 test flights we used for our J-3 are very close to what we see in the simulation. With the 65 horses, we were just seeing a bit of left turn tendency at the start of the takeoff run, and once speed picks up, this tendency to yaw dissipates. Just take your feet off your rudder pedals completely, and go full throttle. The cub will yaw 5-10 degrees and actually go off the runway.

The rudders on our flight simulators are just so light compared to real rudder controls, and so when I fly simulators, my feet are in 'simulation mode' meaning, I am aware just lighty pressing on the rudder pedals on the sim is actually pressing harder in the real aircraft. This is just something we have to live with, or at least those who can't shell out a lot of money for high-end professional controllers.

Scott.

No doubt you are correct, Scott. What we really need are some force feedback rudder pedals.

edit:

Just wanted to add that this little plane, despite the limitations of FSX, and flightsims in general, is just totally so much fun to fly. You guys did (and are doing) just a fantastic job!
