I can hardly wait for the Mustang update. I don't know how much of a re-work it's going to be, but if you do delve into the model itself, is there any chance of de-animating the smaller of the two shutters on the belly? I think it's something to do with the oil cooler. I can't recall ever seeing it open on a real Mustang, but on the FS9 model it's tied to the radiator shutter. The other thing that would make it perfect for me would be the option to select a modern civilian panel, or at least one without a gunsight. I'd happily pay for an update like that!

OK, when we get to those areas, we'll surely take a look at it. I am not sure about the civ panel however but we'll see.

Scott.

Cheers Scott, I know whatever you do will be worth the wait. Meanwhile, she still looks great and flies very nicely in FSX.

I am pretty sure the 'shutter' you are referring to does move on the real P51D and it would be a shame if that is true for it to be a lost function on the update. Now what I would like to see is an animated reflector sight that works like the real one! I would pay DOUBLE for that!

Hi Chalenge,

Yes it does move, but it moves independently of the radiator shutter - and you hardly ever see it open. On the Shockwave and WWII Fighters P-51 they always move together. It's the only thing that's ever really bugged me about this plane, but it doesn't stop me enjoying it. Along with their Spitfire 1a, this is my favourite and most flown add-on in both FS9 and FSX. Incidentally, I agree with you about the reflector sight, but I'd also like the option of no sight, as none of the P-51s flying here in the UK seems to have one.

Accusim pack for P51 will bring separated animations and - what's more important - actual functionality to these shutters.
BTW, our P47 will benefit from Accusim pack even more as there are three kinds of shutters: cowl, oil cooler and intercooler flaps. All of them will have separated animations and - again, what's more important - functionality.

regards
ROB

I would so like an updated "H" solo model for FSX, with a modern panel. Without all the armour, guns, and extra weight. Keep the wing tanks opition. Make it a sport edition, This would be the ultimate mustang. :D

In most real mustangs, the oil cooler and radiator flaps have a toggle switch in the cockpit which toggles between automatic and manual control. I was wondering if these switches could be animated also. In other words, automatically controlling the radiator and oil cooler flaps.

Thanks,
David

Yes, this is possible.

Just out of curiosity, how is the new Mustang coming along?
And do you know if an Iwo version will be in the upgrade?

Why do people want to see a civilian Mustang? I dont get it. Get the acceleration pack it comes with a racer mustang. Most of the population wants a warbird they can fly and master. I have heard people complain that this P-51 smokes after awhile or engine fails on them. I laugh real hard because you know these are the people who just go full throttle. I say come out with a few diffrent textures. Over all this baby is great. Love that merlin sound.

I can only speak for myself, but it boils down to FSX being a civilian sim and P-51s being civil aircraft these days. As for mastering a warbird, check out Alister Kay flying 'Ferocious Frankie' out of Duxford, or Rob Davies in 'Big Beautiful Doll' - total mastery, with more than a touch of magic thrown in, and not a gunsight to be seen.

As it is, I happily fly (I won't say 'master') the Spit 1a, P-40, 109, the old P-51 and many more with period panels and gunsights. I know many people prefer them, and that's fine. I'd just like the choice, is all.

The existance of gunsight is not the only difference. The gauges are different as well which spoil the whole effect IMO. Do I love this big bendix tower mounted in the middle of the panel? No, I don't. ;)

RealAir do a lovely discreet civ panel on their Spit 14 - still looks like a Spitfire panel, just with modern gauges in pretty much the same holes, and of course a radio in place of the gunsight. Anyway, enough already - I can see that I've lost this one  ! Whatever you put on the inside or outside of the new Mustang, it will be a must-have for me.
