David Clarke Headset mod

I got the headset mod from AVSIM. I copied the 'characters' file into the main texture folder for A2A 172 and the pilot is still not wearing the headset. Can someone tell me how to get this mod showing in the sim?

This was a repaint that added the logo to the head set. I thought this was a mod to turn the headset on. What I discovered... I had version 1.0 of the 172. I got the updater from the pinned topic, updated to the latest version, turned the headset on the options menu and the pilots and passengers are wearing the headsets. The repaint mod from AVSIM that adds the DC logo is working as well.
Problem was, I did not update the 172 after install. (at least I am honest
