Fuzzy Question

Post by rictus »

To all ye repainters of repute - a little advice most welcome :)

I have a PSD from which I generated the TGAs for my original repaint. I exported the DDS from DXTBMP (they appear to be DXT5 if I reopen them in DXTBMP). They are lovely and sharp, e.g. the text.

I recently decided to do a variation on this repaint, simply changing the registration and the spinner colour. I exported as 32bit TGA with alpha, then used DXTBMP to flip image and alpha then export as DXT5 DDS. Because the rest of the repaint hasn't changed, I copied the remaining textures from the old texture.reg folder to the new one.

But, for some reason I can't fathom, the new texture is less defined. The edges of the text are not sharp, for example. It's not a massive issue, especially when viewed from a distance, but noticeable when doing the walkround. The old repaint is sharp as sharp. I didn't modify the PSD save to change the registration (still a text layer). I also tried re-exporting as 888-8 DDS, but the same thing happened...

Puzzled... Any thoughts gents? Thanks :)

Hi Rich,

You may have figured out the culprit for this by now, but if not it's possible the 'fuzziness' is caused by having the "include when saving" box for mip-maps enabled in DXTBmp.

Cheers,
Nick
