C172 Paintkit Help Request

Post by jangoller »

Hi,

I'm really new in repainting aircrafts. So I tried to create my first repaint of the C172 Trainer with the repaint kit. Most of the steps are well done. I finished my repaint (at first an very easy repaint to see the effects) and export the fuselage_t.psd to fusekage_t.dds-File but when I will open my aircraft it appears completly black. What is the error? Thanks for your help in advance.

thanks,
Lewis

hello Lewis,

thanks for your reply. Yes I did update the cfg-file and placed the texture in its own folder. When I select the aircraft in FSX it appear completely black in the preview-window.

I saw in your post that you saved the file as fusekage_t.dds. you must keep the name c172_t.dds. the filenames are built into the model. See whether that helps.

oh sorry. that was a mistake of me. Of course I used the original file-name C172_t.dds. Sorry I was a little bit confused during writing the post...

Great, we got that out of the way.

In which format did you save the file. make sure you use DXT5 with alpha channels. Also make sure that you flip the image and the alpha before saving.

If your entries are correct you should be able to see your paint. Otherwise just post the entry for your paint here and we can have a look and point you in the right direction.

Another thing I forgot to mention. Turn off Mipmaps as these make your paints fuzzy.

Hi ebo,

thanks for your help. I flipped the painting and export it to the file-format DXT5. And below the black colors I recognized my paint. I think my problem is the Alpha Channel. How can I create a correct Alpha Channel to make my paintings visible? I use Gimp 2.8. Another thanks in Advance...

Would it be possible if you can post a screen grab so that I can see how things look for me to help you better.

I suggest make a copy of the alpha channel, as you currently have it and paste it into
Layer with all my alpha channel layers.

Original alpha channel
Select all and copy and paste it into the layer as seen above

Select All and press delete. that will clear everything out of the alpha channel and gives you 0 reflectivity

If you want I can help you getting the correct selectivity back into the alpha channel, please post your request here and I can give you some pointers.

For the time being this is a test to see whether the problem is really your alpha channel.

Hi ebo,

I solved my problem and it was really the Alpha Channel. I copied all the layets from the original Alpha Channel and flatten it down. Aa the top layer I copies my texture layer and flatten it also down. So I've got an very complex Alpha Channel. I flipped the image, exported it to an DX5-format and then it works.

A very big thank you for your support!
