File format question

Post by Demious »

I've painted just a few aircraft, several years ago, and this is my first time painting an A2A aircraft and I'm not sure which file formats to use when processing the painted PSD file to DDS for use int he sim.

Could someone please tell me to which file format to save the finished paint in Photoshop and to which file format to save the result from Photoshop with DXTBMP?

Thanks,
Maarten

I think I found how to get the files into my sim, I'm using .bmp at 24-bit (if I use 32-bit I get imprints of other parts on the wings...) with 2048x2048 resolution, and I use DDS 8.8.8-8 32-bit, in DXTBMP to convert them to sim-format.

The results I see in pictures from others have tight lines, even tighter than the A2A default paints, which are slightly jagged if you Zoom in far enough, but the results I'm getting is far from anything I see, anywhere I look... The edges are very jagged. Have a look at the upper edge of the lower red part. This is even in 4096x4096 resolution...

Could someone give me some advise on how to improve those edges?

Hello,

you are looking at DXT5 or better and without mipmaps is the important setting for making sure you get crisp lines etc

thanks,

If you use the NVIDIA DDS plug-in for Photoshop, you can save direct to DDS without using DXTBmp. And as Lewis has said, do not save with mipmaps.
