Photoshop for the heavy lifting, and Illustrator to create certain logos, reg numbers, decal/paint shapes and other custom details. You can create that stuff with fonts and shape layers in Photoshop, but I am way faster in Illustrator. Better vector tools.

I've been using Corel PaintShop since 1991 for photo editing, so naturally to repaint my airplanes I wanted to use PaintShop Pro X9. I tried to follow the Adobe crowd's tutorials, which I usually do, since Corel PaintShop Ultimate can do 101% of what the latest version of Adobe Photo Shop can do. The A2A planes threw me a few curves, but I sorted them out, and now I am a happy camper ready to use my trusty Canadian Army Knife (Corel PaintShop) to repaint all my airplanes.

I posted a tutorial for a simple repaint of the A2A Piper Comanche using PaintShop Pro if anyone is interested.

I am basically using Adobe Photoshop (currently from CC 2017), and most work are done on my iMac 27 inch.
In addition, I have been using Abacus FSRepaint (licenced version) for locating and aligning textures on the model. However FSR is getting rather old now (developed for FS9 and earlier), and does not support HD textures.
So I am struggeling a bit with that part of painting and looking for a replacement software. Are the any suggestions?

Paintshop Pro 8 is my preferred software, but it has RAM limitations. PSP14 is used for larger files. The difference for me is that PSP8 is user-friendly over any other software I have used including Photoshop.

What software are you using to repaint our aircraft?

Post by scottb613 »

Hi Folks,

I've used Jasc PSP 9 since its release up until about a month ago when I upgraded to Corel's PSP x9... Wow - prices have come down - I recall spending around $200.00 for the Jasc version... The new version is pretty cheap - offers some useful time saving improvements - and - really has all the bells as whistles PS has without their obnoxious subscription fee...

I've converted both the Comanche and Skylane A2A PS paint kits to PSP with the necessary tweaks - should I send them to someone at A2A for review and posting ? It may save some PSP users some grief...

I started working on the Cherokee paint kit - but that one seems to be a little different and is giving me some fits - even when making the same corrections I did on the other two... Has anyone sorted the issues on the Cherokee in regards to PSP and would be willing to share ?

Regards,
Scott
