WIP - C172 N4635K Repaint - Exterior & VC

This is my first repaint. I've played around with a half-dozen or so other repaints on a variety of aircraft, but this one will be taken to the finish line.

You can see the real-world aircraft here: http://www.aircraft24.com/singleprop/ce ... 114749.htm

It still needs carpet, rear seats, and other small details on the interior filled in. This plane also had beige instrument panel covers at one point (as seen in reference), so I will include and alt version of the VC. And last but not least, I need to figure out how to get all of the exterior graphics to match up under the tail and around the nose :? I'm sure with a little more trial and error, I will get it. Any secrets?

The biggest challenge so far has been tweaking the interior design of the original aircraft to fit the geometry of the modern cockpit built by A2A, while remaining convincingly "retro." I am certainly open to suggestions from everyone here. I very much appreciate receiving constructive criticism.

And if you were wondering, the VC dash lights work. I'll go snap a picture...

I will update this thread when I have more to share. Thanks to A2A for creating such an amazing aircraft. Also, many thanks to the repainters here at A2A, Avsim, Orbx, and OZx, that have inspired me to contribute to the community.

Nice job, love the colouring inside and out. Reminds me of the Cessna the club had in the 70's anthough I think it was more of an orange colour.

Keep smiling
Tug :)

I use Model Converter X to line up my paints. You import the model, the c172.MDL file, then select the livery you are working on to check how the parts are lining up.Here's my typical workflow.

1. Start Photoshop and load in a texture.
2. Start Model Converter X and import a model, then select the livery.
3. Check for alignment of parts and adjust in Photoshop if needed. Save any changes.
4. Change the livery in Model Converter X and then re-select your livery to check.

Repeat step 3 and 4 until satisfied.

It is really useful when you have more than one monitor. You can paint on one and check it out on another.

Best of luck.
Steve.

That interior looks so good that it'll be some time before kids with sticky fingers will be allowed in it! :D Terrific work!

Gul and Tug, thanks for the kind words.

Yeah the more details I add, the more I WANT want to add. It's snowballing, for sure.

TOO clean, methinks, haha. There is another real-world aircraft for sale with the same exact interior/exterior design, but different n-number, and it is a total beater. Faded pant, rust, torn seats, etc. I will certainly use this repaint as a base for a more distressed, grungy version in the near future.

Thanks so much for that. I've got it downloaded and will give it a spin today. I've got a dual monitor setup so I will be able to take advantage of your method.

Got everything matching up pretty close on the nose and tail. Much thanks to BladeRunner for turning me on to ModelConverterX. It kicked this project in to high gear.

Also tweaked the interior a bit. Shadows added to seats. Still need to deal with carpet.

Any chance of making the interior a seperate download,so we can add it to our other repaints, just like the upholstery and panels that are available.Really looks fantastic.

Absolutely yes. I will upload a black panel, and a beige panel, separately. I will probably make the lower-half black or gray instead of red so it fits with anyone's interior color scheme. I will also upload the interior PSDs so everyone can take advantage of my layered files - a VC paintkit, basically. Sharing is caring! :D
