engine not priming?

Post by tekrc »

just bought the plane and got it loaded up in p3d v4. tank/boost pump, fuel pressure is green, priming for 2-4 seconds before start attempt, start, count 6 blades, switches on, and it never even sputters. try to tickle it but doesnt seem to do anything either. cant figure out what im doing wrong. autostart works fine though

I personally don't prime until after I start turning blades as it is easy to OVER prime the Merlin.

The 51 is super finicky to get started. I find that 2 seconds of prime, maybe three seconds in cold weather, is plenty. Then after mags on and a few more blades I tickle the primer gently if she's not firing. If she does not fire on first attempt then my experience is that she just flat-out is not going to start.

I haven't had enough experience with her yet in P3Dv4 to dial it in. I'm sure there is a specific technique to getting her started after a failed attempt so I'll keep working on it.

Always check the hanger too and make sure something doesn't need replaced.

Cheers
Roger

Ive tried 2 seconds and get a tiny sputter when I turn mags on but it doesnt spin up the engine any then nothing. would be nice if I could see in the mx hangar if it was just flooded or not

When it sputters give it a couple of very short shots of primer and keep cracking.

Hi tekrc,

Just saw your video, I think your engine gets flooded. You can check that in the hangar "Shift+7" under engine inspection.

Try just a bit more throttle. The sim throttle settings can be a tad finicky. Sometimes just a small amount more of throttle will get a start.

mx hangar never said anything about being flooded when I checked.

tried starting with half throttle and only 1 sec of prime. that seemed to do it. though I feel like 1/2 throttle is a bit excessive but it starts now so theres that
