alpha channel in P3D v4 Mustang is badly set

Post by Tom_Weiss »

I did this to have an idea how it looks, this should be a just mildly reflective surface

you can see how strong one of the default skins is

looks to me like the default alpha reflects like Chrome plating

if I did not know better, seems like it is set to work like a PBR model.

I agree Tom. Very minute adjustments take it from flat to full blown mirror. It's a lot of trial and error compared to fsx rendering.

I hope they fix this otherwise we can't do much, the canvas surface looks like the metal one.

And if you look to the tyres of the Landing Gears.. you will see how they reflect also. This didn't change in the P3Dv4.

My skin from FSX looked odd in P3Dv4 as well. My painted colors look great but the polished aluminum looked more like liquid metal. My alpha layer was already pretty white under the painted areas but the aluminum areas were pretty dark still. I worked with the alpha layer by lightening the aluminum areas and it helped. Then today I decided to play with the fresnel files. I darkened fresnel5.dds by 30% about 4 times and that helped. Then I grabbed fresnel3.dds from the Comanche and viola. Much better. It now looks like polished aluminum again. I then went back to my original alpha layer and I'm pretty happy with it, although I'm sure more tweaking and adjusting is in my future  .

Direct from FSX to P3Dv4. Looks like liquid metal.

Fresnel3 from Comanche and darkened Fresnal5 from original skin from FSX.
