Unfamiliar cockpit alarm

Post by mattsta »

Can someone tell me what this is, and the red light and alarm that seem to be associated with it?

I had a cockpit alarm go off as I was landing and a red light appeared in the centre of this item shown inside the red ring in the image

I've never had this happen before

Thanks

Radar was on and it saw the ground behind you.

Just a further question about the rwr on the P-51.
Is this a fully functioning radar or is it just an alarm that goes off approx 30 secs after being switched on?
I've tried switching it on at various altitudes up to 25K ft and after warm up it just starts constantly ringing.
Is there something I'm missing in activating the radar?
Can't see any mention of anything other than the on/off switch in the manual.
Thanks in advance, Ian.

There's the on/off switch and a test switch.
In midair the alarm will only be on if other airplanes are on your tail or you are maneuvering near the ground, where the surface/mountains will reflect the radar signals (same as sitting on the ground with the tail warning radar on).

If the test switch is on, the alarmbell will also ring.
"Give me a ping, Vasili. One ping only, please."
