Excessive windmilling effect...On shutdown.

Post by Eric. »

Just flew the P51 Civilian for the first time in a few months, shut down at Wichita (KICT) where there's a 32kt wind from 166. I taxied to my parking spot which is facing 175 and began to shut down. When I moved the mixture to idle cut off, I was surprised to see the prop continue to spin, at about 290-310rpm. I thought it was a bug and the engine was still running, so I turned off the mags as well. Nope. Looked at the wind and my heading and realized this thing is windmilling. Surely 30kts isn't enough air to turn the Merlin is it?

Yes, I have the 4/16 update installed, as confirmed by the non working heading bug.

I get this, too, but only when in very windy areas. But, since I don't normally fly in heavy winds, it doesn't bother me much.

This is pretty inherent to all the Accusim aircraft as far as I've seen - they will tend to windmill indefinitely on shutdown if you're facing into a stiff wind. Partially due to winds in FSX/P3D being extremely steady even right next to the ground. I doubt there's really anything they can do about this...it would probably involve tearing into the code and changing a lot of the engine physics on a fundamental level (friction and the like) - which would basically break everything else.
