Thank you for producing an amazing aircraft! I am thoroughly enjoying the P-51. It's a remarkable simulation of an amazing aircraft.

I have one small issue when I am on the ground and it seems to occur in any configuration when the aircraft is on the ground (ie. during engine start-up, engine warm-up, taxiing or right after landing). It is very difficult to describe and the best way I can describe it is to call it a "hiccup". The aircraft momentarily shutters and shakes and makes a sound as if the aircraft wheels have just come in contact with the ground. Sometimes it is quite violent and it actually causes skid marks on the taxiway or runway. It is brief moment, but I am worried that it is causing damage to the undercarriage. Please note that it seems to occur even if the engine is off and the wheel chalks are engaged.

I have tried reloading and restarting the flight but it still seems to occur. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Again, fantastic job and congratulations on producing a fantastic aircraft.

Thanks!

Are you using external views? Switching views can cause the plane to jump up and drop to the pavement. Problematic views are views like control tower, standing camera ("FlyBy"), etc. where camera is not close to the aircraft. After you select such a view, and even after returning to a closer view (or to the cockpit) the plane might continue to jump up. I avoid using any external views because of this. The only pretty much bug free external views are "Spot" and "Locked Spot", though "Spot" is more often than not all over the place and takes way too long time to relocate the camera after changing the view to be useful once the plane is moving... FSX views...

I'm pretty sure you can get rid of bouncing by avoiding most external view completely. Don't even scroll through the risky views in order to not cause the game to become bouncy. I only switch between virtual cockpit and (Locked Spot). I never press S twice (i.e go from "Cockpit" to "(Locked) Spot" to "Control tower view") even to get to "Aircraft view" and back to "Cockpit". I always backspace with SHIFT+S from Spot back to Cockpit, because control tower views are pure EVIL. (Bouncing planes happen with stock FSX craft as well. Even bouncing Jumbo Jets are common...)

Note: I don't remember is S and SHIFT+S are default keys. I mean using next and previous view category (instead of clicking next repetitively until you get back to where you were originally) (same applies to next and previous view in first category of external views: don't click next, next, next, because this will take you from Locked Spot to the devilish FlyBy (which is a good view once you're off the ground and flying).

So, learn the way of using views in such way that you don't have to go past views that might trigger FSX instability on lateral axis... bouncing, jumping, hiccup, kangarooing, whatever you wish to call it.

Some say, on other forums, it's fixable and is related to inaccurate contact point definition or something else, and just A2A not doing it properly, but I'm not too sure it can be solved for every craft. After all, I haven't so far seen any of the critics demonstrating fixes that get rid of the problem. Not just that but it's possible Accusim craft have so customized landing gear suspension behaviour that jumping when using FlyBy and Control tower views simply cannot be avoided. I think FSX switches over to simplified modeling whenever the plane is far enough from the camera, and it causes problems switching from one modeling to another. Tweaking contact points might solve it for one weight but adjust the amount of fuel and payload and it might start jumping again or trigger a crash on view change.

Anyway, I blame FSX for that crap. (I wouldn't be disappointed if one time I would see the planes stop bouncing. I'm just not expecting it to happen...)

The bouncing is related to the terrain mesh. If your computer is busy processing something else, sometimes the terrain shifts and causes the aircraft to bounce.

Best regards,
Robin.

+1

This occurred for me also, it was whilst detailed terrain mesh was loading in after changing airfield location, and so even a small change in the mesh resolution - and also; height - made the aircraft in turn change height and re-land, this was with both stock, and addon aircraft.
