P51 Civilian optional 3rd party GPS.

Post by gra1 »

Can anyone tell me if the optional GPS unit for this aircraft is simply a 'Map' navigational aid, or does it feed into the control system like an auto pilot.
Many thanks.

It's a real GPS system, besides a simple map.

Hi gra1

Yes, the various third-party GPS options will provide guidance to the HSI and therefore the autopilot.

One thing to bear in mind with these add-on Garmin GPS units is that the CDI button on the GPS itself needs to be used to select the guidance source for the HSI; not the separate NAV/GPS mode switch on the panel.

Thanks,
Nick
