Re: Awesome Mustang scream
Wow in the all years seeing Mustangs I don't think I've ever heard one quite that loud before! must have been a combination of the aircraft, what its doing and climate conditions because that was stuka loud!

Re: Awesome Mustang scream
We have a Mustang, I think two but definitely one Spitfire and a whole bunch of Harvards which live up the road from me at Ardmore airport and I have never even heard the Mustang whistle before, I've seen it a heap of time and I occasionally hear it and the Spit coming over my house but I've never heard the scream or whistle.

'Ferocious Frankie' (UK reg G-BTCD ex N51JJ) is probably the most famous P-51 flying today for an example of the renowned 'Whine', caused by the airflow through the gunports (Or air over an open bottletop effect).

Out of all the P-51s I've seen display, it has the most prominent gunport 'whine'.
(Not to be confused with the much quieter and less distinctive 'whistle' you here on P-51s during high speed/high power flybys that don't have gunports, or have them sealed).
When FF and it's stablemate, Spitfire IX MH434 where holding nearby and doing some practice loops and aeros prior to their slot at the nearby Dunsfold airshow a few years ago, I could clearly hear the 'whine', even though I couldn't see the aircraft, and I was indoors!
Needless to say, I soon shot outside!
And luckily I got to see them doing some more practice aeros, and had an overhead flyby in the garden when they ran in for their display at Dunsfold.
Kind of made up for not going to my local airshow that year!
Cheers
Paul

Yes I remember seen Ferocious Frankie at the Flying Legends Airshow in Duxford a couple of years ago and it sure has a nice whistle to it

To be honest, wow. That is amazing. Must've been some show.
I might have to try to get the Stang to wail that loud in FS! (I'll try.)
