Guys - I love this airplane so much that it's inspired me to take a hack at painting! This is a WIP shot... and please take it easy on me! I've only been repainting for about 6 hours

Experienced painters - I'll most likely need a TON of help to get La Pistolera off the ground, so please check the repainters forum often :)

Cheers!

Bud

That is a great start Bud. Painting is a constant learning experience. The more you do, the more you learn little tricks and short cuts with your paint program as well as painting techniques. I have been painting off and on since FS2002 and I still learn and pick up new things as I go. This latest Jasta Experiment really was an 'exercise' for me and I had some new things I had to learn too. You will never know if somthing will look good or bad until you try it, so you just have to keep doing it. The most important thing is to have a lot of patience. The most common command I still use is the Undo feature

Keep it up mate. :)

Could not have said it better myself. Photoshop/digital imagery is all creative. Many of the best effects are discovered by accident. Dont be afraid of the program, experiment and use applied knowledge when you can. Ive found that a couple of random tutorials on youtube etc on any number of areas can always be called upon to be mixed, matched to help create some great effects.

Experiment and have some fun. Great to hear you where inspired to start by the aircraft :)

Looks like a great start to me. TJ couldn't have summed it up better: patience, and you learn more from your mistakes than from your sucesses.

I have to add the most important part of skinning. The enjoyment of doing it.

Wilco! It may be a while... But I'll definitely finish! I've actually gotten much further today (not much to show, but as far as understanding the process goes)...

I do have one hitch in my giddyup though and I need ya'lls help. Can anyone tell me what the roundel on the tail is? The only clue is "Luke" and I swear I've seen this before, but I can't figure out the life of me how to find a good hi res pic off the internet! Here's a pic:

Hey bud, looks to me like it's the 2nd image down on the left on this link.

http://www.luke.af.mil/art/mediagallery ... eryID=2321

The only thing that came to my head with the word 'Luke' is Luke Air Force Base. Hopefully that's what you're looking for. :)

Quick update guys - Holy cow have I learned a lot in the last few days! Just thought I'd drop a few preview shots if anyone is interested! She's still on jacks at the paintshop and as you can see... There's a LONG way to go (this particular painter gets paid by the hour  )

Alright guys - She's all finished up! I'm pretty happy with my first at bat (the exception being the stripes on the fuselage!)... I hope you all enjoy her, and I think I may have just gotten the painters bug! And a HUGE thank you to all the master painters who helped me and whose work I was able to view in order to figure out how the process works!

"La Pistolera" is currently waiting approval at AVSIM (I'll post the link when it's live) ~ If there are any other places that you all want me to upload her to, just ask!

That is BEAUTIFUL my friend! I have one question for you or anyone else who may know: in the picture you posted there is a marking under the national insignia on the fuselage which is kinda like an upside down "middle finger" on a six-fingered hand... I have no idea what it is, and it is present on both sides of the fuselage in some images of La Pistolera, but not at all on others. Therefore whether you include it or not does not matter, either way is correct. I'm just curious!

Any idea what it is?

Once I'm settled and have my computer up and running I look forward to downloading this!

BTW (OT), anything I should check out in Oklahoma if I were to drive through on Thursday?

Joe

Thanks Joe! I was wondering the same thing myself about those black stripes.... I've never noticed them till I started looking closely at the pics!

As for your trip... If your going through Oklahoma City... Go to Wiley Post airport and see "Miss America" (the P-51 racer). I think he calls it the Oklahoma museum of flying.... Just walk in the hangar and the boys will show ya around! Also, please go dowtown to the Murrah bombing memorial. It's very important to us. Pm me with the details of your trip!

Cheers!

Bud
