So in clicking everything I must have turned on the Rear Warning Radar, as I got a loud bell going off non-stop when I got close to Sitka, AK. The little horn in the upper left of the panel was ringing and flashing a red light at me. At first I figured I did something REALLY bad to the engine, but after landing maintenance said all was good. I finally got it to stop when I clicked the RWRC off. Can someone tell me please exactly what this is/was, and how it is used? It would make sense to me if there was a backwards looking radar that it might give me a heads up if someone was on my tail, but I'm in empty skies!

Amazing job, A2A- I'm glad I finally got an armrest in one of my planes! :D

Joe

This system is actually replicated quite well. You were likely low and were receiving reflections from the ground. The radar is meant to be used at altitudes above a few thousand feet, if I remember correctly (I can't remember the exact number, I need to check the manual). There are cones around how the radar works, but more than likely you were getting returns from the ground.

That would make sense, as it first alerted when I was decending towards the airport. That is too cool! :D

One question, regarding that system- I know radar was developed throughout WWII, and was used in nightfighters with lots of antennae; Is this system true to just Korea, or WWII as well? I'd never heard of it before, and it seems advanced.

Thanks Cody,

Joe

Actually, the system was around during the very end of the war. They also used a version of the AN/APS-13 to detonate one of the atomic bombs.

Awesome, thanks for all the info Cody- This P-51 just keeps getting better!

One last question- regarding priming: The manual says 3-4 or 1-2 pumps, IIRC, but we have a toggle... Should I hold it and just count out seconds instead of pumps, or flip the switch repeatedly?

Hi Joe,
You wrote: "or WWII as well? I'd never heard of it before, and it seems advanced."

You'd be surprised how advanced things were back then, many things we think are new and modern were developed in WWII like the computer, Jets, Rockets that could reach space and even 3D images. There are 3D images of Germany taken by special Spitfires (there was one in U.S. colours too). I believe the 3D images are in Sheffield U.K. somewhere...........and we think 3D is something new

In the tutorial video he holds the primer for four seconds, as it is an electric primer I guess.
It worked fine when I started her up.

Joe,

Yes, that's correct. The primer system is fully electric and the figures mentioned in that specific part should be read as "seconds" rather than "shots". No need to toggle the switch.
