Cockpit repaints

Post by Talus »

So here is a question. I have downloaded several repaints for both the military and civilian P-51 for Prepar3d. However I have noticed most of them use the all black cockpit textures. I was wondering if there was a way to change it to the OD green cockpit textures that I am just not seeing, and how I would go about doing that. Thanks for anyone who knows how this can be accomplished.

I only have the military P51 but I recall there are a couple of different default cockpits including a WWII O.D. green interior. There is a way I believe to reconfigure a scheme to use a specific cockpit.

Thanks. I figured there was. I know there is a all black one, and an OD green one. All my repaints use the black one, and I want to switch it so they use the OD green one. I just need to figure out how.

I think I have it figured out for the military version, in FSX. There is a CFG file named "texture" inside each paint scheme folder located within the SimObjects\Airplanes\WoP_3P51D main folder. Try copying the texture.cfg from "texture.Blondie" or "texture.Kwitcherbitchin" into any repaint that has an all-black cockpit.

Explanation:

If you look at the texture.cfg for either Blondie and Kwitcherbitchin (with OD Green cockpits), it reads:
[fltsim]
fallback.1=..\texture
fallback.2=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\Texture

But if you load the third default aircraft, FF-064 (which has a black cockpit), it reads:
[fltsim]
fallback.1=..\texture_PW
fallback.2=..\texture
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
fallback.4=..\..\..\..\Texture

I assume the PW in the first line means "Post War" representing when the F-51s were in National Guard service and cockpits were repainted to black. When this .cfg file is used the textures in the Texture_PW folder become active.

Skycat is correct, its a pretty simply change to do so you can have different cockpits to whichever liveries you want.

thanks,
