Hello:

I read your FAQ's

"The FSX Add-On / Accu-Feel Setup pull down menu is missing.
1. Replace your [FSX Install] / Modules / AccuFeelMenu.dll with the one below. Then run FSX, accept the two new Accu-Feel DLL's when prompted, and look for any error messages.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34075223/temp/A ... elMenu.dll <-CHECK

2. Using a text editor like Notepad, open your C:\Users\[YOUR USER NAME]\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml file and verify these entries exist... <-NEGATIVE. No such file "dll.xml" anywhere on my C drive. Where does this come from? Or is that what I'm supposed to be creating here?

3. Open your [FSX Install] / Modules folder and verify that these two dlls are there: <-CHECK
- AccuFeelMenu.dll
- A2A_Feel.dll

NOTE:
When you first ran FSX after installing Accu-Feel, you should have been prompted to load the new DLL. If you didn't receive this prompt, then Accu-Feel is not loading. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, report it here on our forums." <- No prompts to load new dll. Above steps did not resolve the issue. Reporting it here. Need more help. I also installed the patch, no dice. Thanks.

nmaggie,

I actually had to remove #1 part of the FAQ that was downloading a new DLL. Run the installer again the the v.1.08 update here:
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=31105

Then check for that dll.xml again. You may have to make hidden files invisible by:

- In WINDOWS, open your CONTROL PANEL / Appearance and Personalization / Folder Options / View / then click on "Show hidden files, folders, and drives

Scott.

Hi Scott:

Hidden files are "unhidden."

I ran the Accufeel intaller again AND the 1.08 patch installer.

No "dll.xml." But there is an "exe.xml." I went in and edited that, adding the lines from the FAQ.

Still no dice.

I also have REX/Overdrive installed and that runs with FSX startup. Do I need to shut that off? Is it maybe blocking those "trusted program" popups from FSX...?

Thanks.

Hi Scott:

Furthermore:

-Shut REX off (with FSX startup)
-Verified "overspeed damage" unchecked in FSX Realism settings (FWIW)
-Fresh download for patch 1.08
-Uninstalled Accufeel
-Reinstalled Accufeel + patch 1.08 ("Run as Administrator")
-exe.xml in FSX AppData folder. Includes text from FAQ's.
-2 Accufeel .dll's in FSX Modules folder
-Ran FSX again. Confirmed REX on startup is shut off. Still no .dll "run as trusted" prompts. No "Addons" menu. (Though REX was running fine before I shut it off, and I have FSX NVG which is also running fine.)

Maybe a couple of things:

-My FSX is installed in the infamous Windows 7 "x86" Program Folder. I had no choice. Even when I explicitly directed the FSX installer to install in Program Files, it still installed in "x86" ANYWAY. I suppose I can try to manually move my FSX folder out of "x86" and into "Program Files" and see what happens?

-With the Accufeel installer, DirectX does not install because it detects a newer version on my machine. Do I need to try to override that somehow?

Thanks.

nmaggie,

The dll.xml is part of the FSX install. I've never seen an installation with this file missing. You could try just making one, but this begs the question why is it missing?

Unless someone has a better suggestion, I would re-install FSX if that was the case on my system.

Scott.

Thanks Scott.

My previous Windows XP computer crashed (processor), but luckily I was able to back up the hard drives.

I'm installing/migrating everything onto the new computer (Windows 7. Microsoft, how do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways...)

I had a hellacious experience trying to install FSX onto the new machine, so I'm not going through that again. It's on, it's running, and it's staying there. But I did retrieve the dll.xml from my old Appdata on my backup. It seems to be working now. FYI...

...Oops. I spoke to soon. I got the menu straightened out. But no Accufeel effects, sliders all the way left, etc. I'll have to contemplate a reinstall or just give it up. If I don't reinstall FSX, will I have this same problem with my Accusim airplanes? I haven't tried to reinstall those yet.

nmaggie,

It is very hard to say because the kind of issue you are reporting here falls into the under 1% of installs, so we're looking for something on your PC that doesn't exist on 99% of the other PC's. Most of the time, these issues are due to some kind of corruption in the core FSX program, that is only used with advanced programming, like we use with accufeel and accusim. I would be very surprised if you did a full re-install if you had any issues with accufeel or accusim. Just be sure, if you do a re-install, don't just throw every add on in there. Install FSX, run the updates, then test it STOCK.

Then install accufeel and test it with default planes. Get this verification before proceeding further.

Scott.
