strange noise on jacks

Post by alan CXA651 »

Hi.Today i purchased the P-40 , installed the aircraft , then accu-sim , then updated , then got the contols configured in fsuipc + configurator.
Put the aircraft on jacks , to test the u/c and flaps , and hyd in genral , and got a noise as if the engine was trying to start , but did not start , once gear down and locked , and flaps up , with levers in neutral , took her off jacks , and operated electric hyd pump switch again , this time no engine trying to start noise.
Other than that all configured controls worked as assigned , and took her for a quick fly around , all seems to work ok , except for that strange noise on jacks.

Can you re-produce? Have you restarted the system since the installation?

thanks,

The 'strange sound' is the inertia starter flywheel Alan. Wonder what could be triggering it on your system? I don't have the P-40 installed at present to check I'm afraid.

Hi Nick.
Yes , its just a few moments ago that i suddenly realised what the sound was, yet switch was off , just tried deselecting the energizer and engage from configurator , made no difference , so put the controls back into configurator.

I tried it on my P-40. Put her up on the jacks with the battery on, and sure enough, got the starter whine. I tried flipping the starter switch up and down and it didn't change the pitch or engage. I think there's just something that causes the starter sound when she pops up on the jacks.

I can also confirm this. P-40 on jacks, battery switch on, starter wine, battery off, starter fly wheel spinning down, battery on, spooling up again.
Once back on wheels, everything is okay.

FSX:SE, P-4 accu-sim updater 05_09_2016 installed.

I too can confirm this problem. Inertial starter winds up when P40 on jacks and battery switch turned on. The mesh engage switch has no effect while the aircraft is on jacks but inertia-engage switch works fine as soon as jacks are removed.

WinXp pro, FSX boxed w/Acceleration and 5/06/16 update.
