Hi,

I've just installed the Accusim Core Update 1.3 on top of my WOP P-40 + Accusim installation. The update seems to have gone okay, with no errors returned or anything. However, after the update my P-40 now gains about 50-70 knots extra airspeed than it did at the same power settings before Accusim 1.3 was installed. In addition, I am having a HECK of a time slowing my P-40 down for landing approach after Accsusim Core Update 1.3.

Using manifold pressure settings of just over 10 inches and prop rpm at less than 1800, I can now barely slow her down to 180 knots in level, clean flight. I think something went wrong someplace. :) Whatever the problem, it sure seems like the P-40 got extremely slippery after Accusim 1.3. I'm not sure if there is an isolated problem on my particular installation, or if there is a bug with the P-40 and the new core update not meshing correctly.

Also, I've only tested the AVG P-40B variants so far.

Thank you,

Hobart Escin

Hi,

Just as a followup to my original post, I'm not seeing any improvement with the issue after installing the very latest Core Update 1.3.1.

I read something in another post by Scott Gentile referencing the fact that he thought there were some cross-linked files between the Accusim Spitfire and P-40 installations when installing the original 1.30 Core Update. Now, this is just me speculating, but I'm wondering if somehow the Core Update(s) have managed to turn my P-40 into a "Spitfire/P-40 Hybrid" somehow, lol.

I enjoy the extra speed and all, but I need a drag chute to land her now, hehe. Fun stuff. :)

Again, thank you,

Hobart Escin

Hobart,

At under 2000 feet, 42" and 3000RPM, radiator set to high speed. What is your indicated airspeed?

Scott.

Under these conditions, I get 293 MPH (1500 ft MSL, 10°C OAT).

Yes, I have the same issue with the drag like Hobart. Just can't slow it down anymore.

What is the DATE MODIFIED on your P40B.air file, in your SimObjects / Airplanes / WoP3_P40 folder?

It is 10.05.2012.

I first applied patch 1.3, and today I saw 1.3.1, so I put that on top of it.

Erik,

This is very odd. Next time you are in your P-40, get into a nice level cruise, and have your cooling flaps closed. Then pull the lever down to full open. Does your aircraft slow down?

Scott.

Confirming the speed increase.
Cruising @ 1500ft power setting; 27" 2300RPM Auto-Lean with cowl flaps in cruise setting getting about 270MPH IAS, before core update was getting around 210 MPH IAS or so. Was able to slow to landing configuration without any problems.

Note on second flight, cruised at max climb power 35" 3600RPM Auto Rich with cowl flaps in climb setting getting about 300MPH IAS. Did take longer to slow down but figured because it was slowing down from a bit higher cruise speed. Lowered gear and flaps once IAS was below 160, slowed down fine to 100 for final approach.

Cheers
TJ

Ok, to me it definitely feels faster, but not dramatically so. I just matched the settings exactly of TJ's first flight (1500' 27" 2300RPM A.L.) and was at exactly 250mph. I opened the cowl flaps and maybe slowed to 245mph, but it was tough to tell. I had no difficulty slowing down to land, and if anything it now seems to land at a lower speed, more like a Spitfire. I like the fact the flaps now come down slower.

I only installed the 1.3.1 Accusim, so perhaps people are getting problems installing one over the other?

If you ask me this P-40 now flies an awful lot like I'd expect a Spitfire MkV to fly ;)

Joe

No, the 1.3.1 installer is fine.

OK, try this. Go to 15,000 feet, fly straight and level. Then SLOWLY push the nose down (don't let the engine quit) and go into a dive to 400+mph ias. Does the aircraft start to develop a pronounced roll to the right? If so, then this tells us that Accu-Sim drag is working.

Scott.

Yes, I have the roll to the right when diving.
But similar issues as others are having.
